As a complete novice this publication has a mixture of information on how aircraft are controlled and also radio air bands, effectively 2 books in one and ideal for my needs.

This is a really heavy going book - it has light hearted sections, but in the main it is almost an 'air traffic control text book'.
I purchased this to support my application to NATS though, and so it was perfect for that purpose.

For anyone going through ATC recruitment, or just interested in learning more about ATC, I would highly recommend this one.

Not the most gripping read to curl up with, but once you get through the jargon you start to get to grips with what the author is trying to get across with regards to the discipline required within the airline industry and as I live directly under a major UK flight path this has now become my bible.

Just great

This book is a great introduction to the procedures and principles of air traffic control. Everything is clearly explained, often with photos or diagrams. Although, by the nature of the subject, it uses a certain amount of technical language, these expressions are explained or written in a way that a non-technical person can understand. Typical ATC frequencies are provided, together with an explanation of aircraft approach procedures, etc., and the significance of runway markings and lights. Much else is included in this highly useful work. Excellent for reading and/or reference.

Bought to update previous books by this author (for airband scanner radio use). It is excellent for this and for understanding just what is going on in ATC, in aircraft and on the ground. Not a kiddies book, it's dense and full of info. If you like that kind of book, this is the one to buy.

I am really pleased with this text book. I have become interested in aviation via my teen-aged son's interest. I am very pleased to have found that this is not an "Idiot's Guide" but covers the subject in great depth for those of us with an amateur interest.
