    *** Note ***
Recently purchased another MyNote. It came with handwriting recognition software "MyScript Notes 2.2" - the original was version 2.1. The latest version is far superior. Still needs reasonable care though - extra for me :-))

Having used it for 1 month I am quite pleased with the overall performance. It is very simple to use and the instructions in the manual are quite clear.

    Handwriting Recognition
The digital pen works perfectly well and my handwriting is transferred correctly to the digital file. My first test with handwriting recognition worked correctly. This was probably because I took some pains to write clearly. Since then it has been useless. I guess that the problem is that my note-taking handwriting style is not very pristine. I tend to add underlines, boxes, and other graphical squiggles which obviously confuse the system. It does however fit in with my method of use. I use the ScanSoft PaperPort application which stores documents as digital images - usually imported from a scanner.

Unfortunately the .TOP file format used by ink pad is not compatible with any other application so I have to convert the file to.jpg. The application "My Ink" included on the CD is the only way to achieve this. Whilst the application does the job perfectly well and quite quickly it is one of the most "user unfriendly" applications I have ever used. The main problem is that there is very little control over naming the output files. It allows two methods, neither of which allows one to customise the file name fully. Other problems are that it only remembers the default output folder, and defaults to.bmp files, so it is necessary to remember to allow for this each time.

If you want to save your notes or drawings as you have written them on paper to your PC, then it's a great tool. However, if you want to convert your notes into a word doc, be prepared to spend a fair amount of time correcting the doc conversions. One other issue that I have come across is that the software supplied can cause your PC from achieving st-by or hibernation, (WTService) this can be disabled in your system admin tools.Maybe, I was expecting more from the handwriting recognition software, maybe too much.

This was so disappointing. The description lead you to believe that the handwriting recognition was brilliant - it isn't. It works using a digital pen on a tablet. Even with pretty good handwriting, it fails to pick up all the words and NONE of the punctuation. You have to write incredibly slowly and in the style of a child before it picks up most of the words then you have to individually edit and process each page section using their software which takes forever. To be honest, it would be quicker to re-type any handwritten notes rather than convert and correct it! The only use I can see is for people who create lots of hand drawn diagrams to be stored as pictures - but then a scanner can do that too! Below is a sample of my converted handwriting, before corrections: [What an utter waste of money, You have to write IT I6 a dyslexic peat to get the hardwired l: raised. H is slower then typingkogbya long shot-Damn-When you convert it, it reads US At Solute nonsense, wines with no p unitisation at all. Darrin, Damn, Damn!]My Advice - don't bother!

Use this for my lessons and write my notes. I've searched for that kind of product long time until I finally found it here on Amazon. The My Note Premium 2 is already Vista compatible. Use for sketches, handwriting notes is pretty easy. All A4 sizes paper fits in horizontal notepad mode. You have the possibility to load the handwriting in your PC via USB cable or save on SD-card and you still have the original in hardcopy. With the software you can digitalize your handwriting. Without paper and in landscape format it is a simple graphics tablet which is ideally for photo editing. Overall a smart product!
