Product Description

Synopsis

In the USA the major cause of death in dogs is owners having them put down because of behaviour problems, a third of the dogs abandoned in the UK have been left for the same reason. The author, a pet behaviour therapist, explains how the way we live and interact with dogs is often counter-effective because we are not understanding behaviour from the dog's perspective. Using proven and simple strategies, this guide aims to help turn unmanageable dogs into the perfect pets.

Ain't Misbehavin' was recommended to us by our local vet. The wording is fairly clear and the illustrations lighten what could otherwise become a very intense book. Mr Appleby's real-life descriptions are thought provoking. The chapters are well laid out and not so long that you loose interest.

After reading this book we have re-educated ourselves and retrained our dogs. The approach shown by David Appleby has improved our dogs behaviour dramatically. You could almost say that now they ain't misbehavin'. We have gained a greater insight into our dogs behaviour and now have an even greater bond with them. It just goes to prove that you can own dogs for over twenty years and still learn more about them.

We are now intrigued by Canine Psychology and have gone on to read other books but none have been as clear and easy to relate to as Ain't Misbehavin'.

An excellent book 6 Jan 2011
By AndyO
Format:Paperback
This is a really excellent book.

I've had dogs around since I was a kid and I've had my own dogs for over 25 years so I thought (as I suspect a lot of people do) I knew a thing or two about dog training. This book has turned much of that "knowledge" on its head. It really puts things into perspective by looking at things from the dog's point of view, it explains how and why many common behaviour problems can occur and it shows why some of the techniques that many of us use to train our dogs are seriously flawed.

A few months ago we acquired a new puppy and have put some of the techniques in this book into practice. And guess what - they really work. If only I'd read this book 20-something years ago, I'm certain I'd have had a much easier life with some of my previous canine friends!

I would thoroughly recommend this book to dog owners everywhere.

Ain't Misbehavin' 24 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
Wonderful, wonderful book. Shame it's getting tricky to get hold of. I've bought several copies of this over the years and gifted them to friends and family with new pups (though it's also great for older dogs / behavioural treatment). David Appleby is a star, the cartoons make the book a fun read - great for getting the kids interested, yet it's really informative. If everyone read this book before getting a dog or as soon as their dog arrived the world would be a better place (for dogs anyway). 5 star recommendation from me (as a vet, a dog owner and wife of Pet Behaviour councillor). No I'm not working on commission, promise!
