Brian Bagot is obviously very accomplished at his art. He understands the principles behind Aikido, but also remembers that everyone has to start somewhere. It is very difficult to describe a throw or a joint-lock when you have someone to demonstrate upon. I find it impossible to do in the written word. I congratulate Mr. Bagot on showing me how its done.

This book is primarily aimed at beginners but I find it a useful reference for my teaching

Useful introduction to the basics of Aikido. I'm glad to see a third of the book devoted to Aiki Ken and Jo. I have had the privelege of training with some of the dan grades in this book and know they have trained in Iwama directly under Morihiro Saito Sensei.

It's a pity the previous reviewer doesn't appreciate the value of solid kihon (basic) training in learning Aiki principles. If you want that read the spiritual teachings of Morihei Ueshiba or one of Koichi Tohei's excellent books. But you can't jump in at the deep end if you want to practice Aikido.

A nice book, heavy on techniques but a bit light on aikido philosophy etc... if that's what you're after...

Have read many books on the subject and would still always recommend one where one of the Ueshiba's is the author, but that's not a criticism of this book!
