5.0 out of 5 stars Great value :D, 16 Sep 2006
By Talflick "7lick" (Fenwick Hicktown Canada) - See all my reviews
I bought the Aigo A208 because I wanted to find a less expensive MP3 player than some of the options out there, because as a portable unit and wearing it `out and about' meant that it is at risk of damage, being stolen or lost. According to my research, Aigo is a brand name of one of the larger electronic manufacturers in China.

Do not let the price or make put you off this player - it is very good. The sound quality is clear and balanced, but this will depend on the quality of the file being played. I use MP3 128kbs 44hz files created with Winamp Pro and then load them to the player using `My Computer' in Windows. The supplied headphones are better quality than many standard headphones shipped with players, although it is worth noting the player's sound quality does benefit from better headphones. That is certainly nothing unusual or negative; headphones, like speakers, are a matter of personal preference for sound and wearability.

The player is well built, and has a nice ergonomic rubberised case and tactile feel. The case is about 15mm thick, although this does not affect the handling. The switches are thoughtfully placed, feel robust and are easy to operate. The cap slides of the end of the player to expose the USB connector for direct connection to your computer, and the player comes with a short USB cable if needed. The screen is easily read, and is backlit with blue LEDs. There are various options in the menus regarding things like the backlight that you can adjust to your preferences. The screen also displays several settings including the graphic equalizer, battery life (1 x removable AAA battery) and the track being played. You can navigate your folder tree on the screen to find a specific folder or file/song.

In conclusion, I think this player offers a great set of features and value for money. There is the added benefit that you can also use some of the 1GB of data storage for data files, in the same way as you would a USB memory stick. More importantly, the player is discreet and does not draw attention to itself or the wearer as potential target for theft or street crime as some makes and models do.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant starter MP3, 29 Dec 2006
This is a great first MP3 at the budget end of the market and must be a 'best buy'.

Lightweight and functional, it looks pretty cool and does everything it claims to. I was suprised by the excellent sound quality, expecially when equaliser functions set. Would be even better with a decent pair of phones, I suspect. LCD screen is small but works fine: you can even download lyric files for simultaneous play. Plays both MP3 and WMA (including DRM-9 but not DRM-10) files. Battery lasts about 6 to 8 hours, which ain't all that bad.

The instructions are easy to follow: I was able to use it in minutes. Admittedly, I was familiar with Media Player from ripping and burning discs - I would advise learning this first if you are a first-time buyer.

Eventually you will probably feel the need to upgrade to the Ipod type of device with complex playlists, big screen, movie storage, lots of gigabytes and maybe phone/internet. But this is ideal for starters.

Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Faulty after 3 months, 14 Dec 2007
By Tim Howard - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Worked well for a while and then started to lock up or crash. Now it's unusable after just 3 months.
Have just contacted Amazon for a replacement item - which they agreed to despatch in advance of the return, which is jolly decent of them! :-)
Let's see how long that one lasts.

Remember that it is reasonable to expect an item such as this to work properly for at least a year. Failure to do so means it is not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act.
