Product Description

Review

"Within the book, Jeremy simplifies the learnings of what at first glance are some complex areas through the activities that he presents, the tips that he supplies and the intriguing personal stories he provides as to how he has worked with athletes to enable them to make huge leaps in their performance - all of which allow the reader to extract the vital information presented quickly and effectively. I urge anybody who is an athlete wishing to improve their sporting potential, or anybody working within the athlete set-up to read this book and challenge themselves to implement the learnings from it in all aspects of their lives". From the Preface by JJ Smith, Lecturer and Researcher of Sport Psychology, Loughborough University

Product Description

More and more people are realising that, as with all areas of life, your results in sport depend crucially on your ability to use your mind effectively. Certainly many elite sports performers say that the mental aspects of the sport make the difference between being a champion or not. The way you use your mind determines the level of success and fulfilment you gain from sport, whether at professional or recreational level. Ahead of the Game is written for sports coaches, athletes and players of all levels who want to learn some leading edge yet tried and tested techniques and approaches to using your mind more effectively, and helping others to do the same. It draws on many of the techniques from Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), proven methods to achieve success. Ahead of the Game takes you through the techniques and approaches step by step, and is full of practical exercises and examples of how these techniques have been used with athletes so that you can adapt the techniques to suit you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands-on, practical guide that does what an NLP book actually should, 13 Oct 2008
By D. Stevens (East Midlands, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of the most frustrating aspects of books on NLP is that though they often promise to be a guide to how to practice NLP, they often turn out to be more of a guide to the principles underlying NLP. This excellent work - written in a lively and engaging manner - actually delivers on how to undertake the NLP enterprise. It is ultimately a practical guide to improving sports performance via NLP methods, and it keeps its eye on that ball the whole time. More abstract notions and understanding are employed when it is necessary to do so, but Jeremy Lazarus doesn't fall into the trap of putting the cart before the horse.

An immensely useful work which has provided me with clear-cut directions that I've been able to put into practice immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars A helpful guide for sports players , 13 Dec 2007
By P. Davies (London,England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is an excellent reference book for anyone who wants to improve the outcomes of their sporting endeavours - which must include most of the population ! The author introduces a number of mental approaches to sport
which he has himself employed as an NLP trainer, and sets them out in a clear and readily understandable format. Jargon is used sparingly, and each section is carefully broken into a logical sequence, illustrated with stories, tips, exercises and check-lists, and rounded off with a summary of the key learning points. In case this sounds very dry, the text is also laced with examples of the author's self-deprecating humour.
I shall have this book at hand the next time I'm preparing for a golf or tennis tournament, to make sure I go into it in the right mental state.

having read jeremy's book, i then used the suggestions and hints in the book to improve my coaching of young goalkeepers at one of England's top, professional soccer club academies. the young keeprs are now using the book themselves to improve their own performances.

i recomend the book to any coach of sportspeople looking to improve performance.
