I really enjoyed this. Alot of people had just discarded this one because of it's 'cutesy' look but when i looked at the back and saw the animation i bought it straight away. The animation is so crisp and smooth it's amazing. you could compare it to a fine tuned Tenchi.
The story may be a little confusing to some if you have not read the manga or wathced the series - 'oh my goddess'. I think at times it tries to fill you in however. The story centres around Beldandi a goddess who is sworn to grant the wish of her client. Her client incidentally wished for her to stay with him and she falls in love. In this installment a strange man appears and kidnaps Beldandi and the story starts from here.
Again the animation is stunning, The length of the dvd is quite impressive and the light hearted comedy is great. The extras on the disc are really good too - the best of which being an episode of the mini goddess series, which my girlfriend has the full series and is AMAZING and funny beyond belief.
all in all then a great Dvd despite it's high price tag and one that will warm your heart. aw!

Being a serious drama/horror anime fan I don’t normally like these magical girl series they are simply too cheesy for my tastes. But this was the exception. My whole family fully enjoyed it.
The artwork is outstanding and stylish, the story line while dragging a little at the start was very enjoyable.
The film picks up from where the series left off, delving into past of the goddess belldandy and a cherished mentor from her past, who is intent on undoing everything the gods have created and having it recreated to suit his own misguided views.
I found the enjoyment of the film is greatly enhanced by your understanding of the series, because the character's personalities are established in the series, the contract between the goddess belldandy and keicchi, the heavens system and how come belldandys sister’s skuld and urd come to stay with them are all firmly established in the series, and some of these are only touched upon in the film. Without watching the series it is just a average anime film (in my view feel free to disagree).
I Purchased the series with the film, and I am glad I did its simply a gem in my anime collection. I highly recommend it to any anime fan.

I write this from a view point of one who is not a fan of the TV series or Manga... and I did watch this to see what the fuss was about; but I have to say I was really happily surprised by what I saw.
Ah! My Goddess has a massive TV series and Manga behind it but that should not stop you if you have never seen either of them. The movie explains itself well enough to enjoy on its own. Saying that if you can read a summary before hand of either the Manga or the TV series you will get a lot more out of it- that depends how dedicated you are feeling.
The animation is beautiful, the plot is captivating (if not a little sweet for some tastes and those who cannot stand sweet romances should steer well clear- and for that I did dock a star) Its a very entrancing look into the universe and fantastic characters behind Ah! My Goddess that has made it so massively sucessful an anime.
If you are a parent renting for kids its good for 8/9 yr old girls upwards and beyond. If you are an adult do not be put off by that Ah! My Goddess has so much more depth to it than your traditional animated movie. Definately one you should see.
For my part I am now curious enough to go hunting for more!

So, facts first: this movie picks up pretty much where the OVA series of 5 episodes left off. Celestin, a mysterious figure from Belldandy's past returns to Earth and, in the process, proceeds to infect her with a virus that erases all memories she has of her time with Keichi.

Suddenly all three goddesses find themselves struggling to save the earth and all of creation, while Belldandy tries at the same time to regain her memories of the man she loves.

As someone who came to the AMG franchise via the 2005 series first, I found a couple of things a little strange at first, but this movie shares the same tone as both that series (though K-1 and Belldandy do seem to be rather more outwardly affectionate here) and the manga itself. It also manages to round off the OVA series really well.

And the visuals are wonderful. The animation is really well done, the audio is good and even the English dub is reasonably good (though I still think it sounds best in the original Japanese with subs)

Even though you sort of know that Keichi and Belldandy will win through somehow in the end, part of the fun and excitement is seeing how it will happen. There's plenty to keep a viewer occupied and a really powerful emotional core, which makes it a very rewarding watch, even though it could be a little confusing (sometimes) for anyone who's not fully aware of the AMG canon.
