Book Description

After an old hat and a storm leave modern girl, Tessa Hensen, trapped in a past century and living in the hobbit-like house of a homesteader's family on the Oklahoma Territory prairie, she is forced to accept help from an infuriating farm boy to get back to her real life.
Tessa lives as twelve-year-old Agnes Campbell while Judd Howard helps her solve the mystery of the hat. Sparks fly between the two of them as his old world and her new world collide. He does everything possible to get rid of her; she longs to escape him and his grumpy, old-fashioned ideas about everything.
Gradually, her unwanted family's everyday struggle for survival draws Tessa into the past. When Elizabeth—a Kiowa Indian girl—befriends her, the hardships finally seem bearable.
The two girls face a terrifying encounter with an outlaw and an old Christian man sacrifices his life for theirs, forcing Tessa to ask herself the question: Does she really want to leave behind the past…and Judd?

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean Christian young folks' read 28 Oct. 2013

I liked this work of historical fiction. It is imaginative. The plot keeps hopping, and the characters are believable and personable. It is certainly written for a younger audience but adults would enjoy reading it for themselves or to younger children. Although I have the Kindle version, I would keep this on my bookshelf for anyone to pick up with absolutely no qualms. The author knows her time period and setting well. I really appreciate good, clean, fun reads.

This is a simple book, that just makes you want to follow the story. There are no twists or turns or intense plots, just good writing and a good story. It is a book that is good for young girls and women alike. The story will take you to another time for and afternoon and leave you glad for reading the story. I hope this book gets many more reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer intrigue 27 Aug. 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and a different twist on time travel. Although written more for YA, it kept an over 50 woman well absorbed throughout the entire story. There are references to praying and the Lord, in a nice way where Agnes was torn on praying for her "travel" outcome. The ending left me smiling and glad I decided to read this book.

Such a sweet and lovely story. Sometimes it's nice to relax and escape to a time when hard work and family had a different meaning. It was survival and the love is obvious. Thanks for an enjoyable read!!
