I know it says below the title "Suitable for 15 years and over" but on the box it says 12 i know they are normally rated 15 so has these episodes in this box set been watered down as i do not want to buy something thats been changed to make it more suitable
I share your concern, but there are a lot of UK anime DVDs on this site that have the wrong age rating (as in, not the one that the BBFC gave the title, setting aside debate about what rating these titles should have received) on their pictures or even in the information about the DVD, perhaps it's a mix up caused by the film being rated 12? Or maybe the BBFC have reclassified the title, as they sometimes do when an older work is rereleased? My suggestion would be to either contact Anime Limited themselves or check the BBFC's website and see if they have rated this release yet. There was nothing mentioned about edits/censoring when the release was announced on Facebook and usually the truth comes out pretty quickly when that's the case. I'll ask them about it on Facebook.
I'll have a go at answering this question. I don't know 100% if this is what Anime Limited are doing with their releases, but MangaUK provisionally mark their titles as a high age rating until the BBFC actually rate the product. When listing a product on Amazon it HAS to have an age rating specified, and if you list something as a 12 and it's actually an 18, you may find those who pre-ordered are actually under age and could get into trouble. By listing with a higher rating you are covering yourself.
That said though, the rating for part one of Cowboy Bebop SHOULD be 12. In response to A Gardiner, the DVD releases were complete series boxsets, and with those you have to state the highest rating given for any of the 24 episodes on the box (in this case 15). However, owning the old Beez release I can say that the discs for the first half of the series were all marked 12, whilst the ones for the second half were all 15. What you will find is that Part 1 will be a 12, whilst part 2 will be a 15. Nothing will be watered down or cut.
Mangaranga is right: the exception to their post would be if the new extras that are going to be included, e.g. documentaries, trailers, featurettes, interviews and/or audio commentaries exceed the classification of the show itself. As such, I'd probably suspect that this'll be a 12 or 15, but would err caution, that it may well be a 15, for both Cowboy Bebeop Box 1 and Box 2.
