5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent book from Buzan 11 April 2007
By Mike B of Syd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
OK - first up: I have many of Buzan's books and I consider myself slightly biased to favourable reviews of his publications. However, that's not to say that, like a certain other lateral thinking person who will remain unnamed, his works can't sometimes feel slightly derivative of his earlier work.

Still, this new book - and I found it just recently by accident and am happy to provide first review - is a great collection of material that bounds many of Buzan's earlier works (memory, mind-mapping, vocabulary, etc) but provides a much more holistic view of keeping the mind (and the general person) in a much more healthy state.

When reading the book I was reminded of Vos Savant's "Brain Building in 12 weeks" as the book consists of many mental exercises that aim to provide a framework for exercising the mind. Vos Savant's book is more clinical than this however and so I found Buzan's work much more enjoyable as a read or as a 'dip in and try' exercise list.

Even if you have other Buzan titles and perhaps feel that there hasn't been anything new in the last couple, I am always thankful for the reminders to hold the course and look after my brain and exercise various capacities that all of us hold and would recommend this title as a well rounded sampling of Buzan's other works and also some solid principles for keeping the mind active.

And, even better, it's wonderfully free of over-the-top statements to suggest that it will make you a genius in the image of Einstein. Just solid, sensible and practical exercise for the mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not much help! 24 Jun 2012
By Ho Kheong Tan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book provides a summary of many memory techniques out in the market.

There is nothing innovative and if you have been reading and following the panoply of brain food and memory books, you should skip this book.

There are various exercises in the book. However, these exercises are too few and only give the readers a "feel" of what the exercise is all about. An interested users will need to buy various books on the associated memory technique before he could gain much from the technique.

And the book is too brief on brain food.

Save your money and give this book a miss.
