Product Description

AGE OF HEROES is an all-guns-blazing, World War II action film based on the incredible true story of the British special ops division 30 Commando, starring Sean Bean and Danny Dyer. Following the first mission of this elite unit, formed by 'James Bond' author Ian Fleming and a precursor to the modern day SAS, AGE OF HEROES' 30 Commando take on the might of the Fuhrer's armed forces in a thrilling life-or-death operation.

The film follows the exploits of Corporal Rains (Dyer) as he is inducted into Fleming's newly formed 30 Commando, where he and the rest of the platoon are put through intensive training under the watchful eye of Sean Bean's Major Jones. Their skills and endurance are pushed to the limit as they prepare for their first highly classified and dangerous mission: to parachute into occupied Norway and capture vital radar technology that is key to winning the war. But the plan goes spectacularly wrong, and the commandos find themselves in a pitched battle to reach the border as vicious Nazi Commander Teichman (Eric Madsen) and the Germans' deadly 5th Alpine Division tighten the noose.

If you're a war film fan, especially British war films, you're better off doing all those odd jobs you have been putting off rather than watch this film. It has all been said on these reviews, but to recap - shallow characters you don't get to know or want to know, poor plotline, dubious military advice and an ending that looks like they ran out of money and the meter cut out. Like reviewer Brumster, as an ex-military chap, I am still waiting patiently for the return of the Great British War film! We seem to have a long wait! Considering the real quality European war films of late, it is a shame this director didn't take a leaf out of their book, could have been a whole lot better. Really aimed at the teen market.
On an end note - to the military advisors, please see how a set of '37 webbing is worn and how WW2 Brits patrolled with weapons...and I did think Sean looked smart in his 1949 battledress blouse, the war finished in 1945, 'nuff said.

Interesting film, very good (real life) story line but poorly told. Did not do justice to the real life hero's, have seen better.

Age of Heroes follows Corporal Rains (Danny Dyer - Football Factory) as he joins the newly created 30 Commando Unit, helmed by the gruff Major Jones (Sean Bean - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring). They are tasked with capturing the latest in Nazi Range Distance Finding (that's radar to you & I) technology under the pretence of an assault on a Freya station, deep in the Norwegian mountains. New to the unit, will Corporal Rains prove himself worth his salt?

This is a WWII movie that feels very much like the classic Where Eagles Dare with an elite group of soldiers braving the snowy-wastes to achieve an improbable objective against the odds. Sean Bean carries the acting in this film with his surly but affable Major Jones, whilst Danny Dyer provides a decent rendition of a rough-around-the-edges soldier. Although he probably could of done with toning down the mockney accent at one of two points, it's a good performance.

The film is beautifully shot as they train on the moors of Scotland and then trek the Norwegian mountains but is let down by a rather dodgy piece of CGI towards the end and in one or two points the low-budget really is obvious. The film also ends rather abruptly, with very little explanation of the outcome of the mission or the fate of the survivors.

If you like war movies you'll love this, with Danny Dyer performing above average this is a great Sunday afternoon film. Recommended!

I should have read the signs. The last film I saw featuring both Sean Bean and Danny Dyer (COYI) was "Outlaw" so I only have myself to blame, but i am a sucker for war films. Read more

Almost a very good movie.
This movie has a good story and suspense, great cast, action sequences and outside locations, but it just seemed to unravel in the last 10 minutes. Read more
