Product Description

AGE OF HEROES is an all-guns-blazing, World War II action film based on the incredible true story of the British special ops division 30 Commando, starring Sean Bean and Danny Dyer. Following the first mission of this elite unit, formed by 'James Bond' author Ian Fleming and a precursor to the modern day SAS, AGE OF HEROES' 30 Commando take on the might of the Fuhrer's armed forces in a thrilling life-or-death operation.

The film follows the exploits of Corporal Rains (Dyer) as he is inducted into Fleming's newly formed 30 Commando, where he and the rest of the platoon are put through intensive training under the watchful eye of Sean Bean's Major Jones. Their skills and endurance are pushed to the limit as they prepare for their first highly classified and dangerous mission: to parachute into occupied Norway and capture vital radar technology that is key to winning the war. But the plan goes spectacularly wrong, and the commandos find themselves in a pitched battle to reach the border as vicious Nazi Commander Teichman (Eric Madsen) and the Germans' deadly 5th Alpine Division tighten the noose.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very poor 28 May 2013
By Mr. S. Storey TOP 500 REVIEWER
They just didn't have the budget to pull this off. The sets are half arsed, some of the acting is below par and there aren't many cast members. The story is fine but the whole thing just looks a bit cheap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth a second glance 25 Mar 2014
You only have to watch the first scene before the titles to see that this film is not worth the money. To make a comparison look at the John Mills film "Dunkirk" and you see the tin hats are not the same the uniforms are not the same and most of that sequence has been cribbed from "Dunkirk". Then the fighting soldier was a professional so would never, never have answered his superior officers is the manner shown. I could go on.

Another irking point is the free use of the term "Commando" which as a fighting body was not formed until 1943, well after the end of operations before Dunkirk. There are too many errors to make this film anything like credible.

The rest of the film seems like a mix of "Kelly's Heroes" and "The Eagle has Landed". Bits and pieces from here there and everywhere. At the time those films were premiered they were taken as adventure films with little to do with the truth. This film, on the other hand, is out of time and is certainly not like as good as the aforementioned.

The actors do their best so cannot be faulted, while the script writers, art director and film director should be looking for other jobs. Avoid this film like the plague.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money 4 Feb 2012
By Arryj
Having loved the whole commando concept since being a boy, I was looking forward to this film greatly.. Only to be immensely disappointed! Garbage acting! It looks like they spent the entire budget on Sean bean, in fact the best bit about the DVD was the royal marines advert at the beginning, don't waste your money like I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Low Budget... but a suprise! 7 July 2011
When i watched this it was not with high expectations, ... i mean it had Danny Dyer in it for gods sake... and much as i love Sean Bean he has some real dogs under his belt.

And yet... i am a sucker for a war film, and this didn't disappoint me, Dyer was almost to be believed, and Bean was great in his role. The budget provided some clunks, but all in all they told the story of 30 Commando well, and yes they did a few too many homage's... but hey there is nothing new under the sun.

Taken for what it is a low budget war film, its great fun and worth buying.

I enjoyed it and would crack the DVD again to re watch it. Hence the 4 stars for what is a low budget flick

Well acted? – Yes, the actors did a good job with the poor script from Ed Scates and Adrian Vitoria together with the poor direction from Adrian Vitoria that they were given.

Accurate? – Yes, in as much as there was a second world war.

Good story? – No.

Recommend Adrian Vitoria films? – Not based on Age of Heroes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Heroes of Telly - NOT! 15 Jan 2012
If you're a war film fan, especially British war films, you're better off doing all those odd jobs you have been putting off rather than watch this film. It has all been said on these reviews, but to recap - shallow characters you don't get to know or want to know, poor plotline, dubious military advice and an ending that looks like they ran out of money and the meter cut out. Like reviewer Brumster, as an ex-military chap, I am still waiting patiently for the return of the Great British War film! We seem to have a long wait! Considering the real quality European war films of late, it is a shame this director didn't take a leaf out of their book, could have been a whole lot better. Really aimed at the teen market.
On an end note - to the military advisors, please see how a set of '37 webbing is worn and how WW2 Brits patrolled with weapons...and I did think Sean looked smart in his 1949 battledress blouse, the war finished in 1945, 'nuff said.
