Product Description

The Agatha Christie's Poirot - Set 1 DVD contains four discs and covers the entire first series of the hit TV show "Agatha Christie's Poirot". Set in the 1930s, the award-winning period drama stars David Suchet, who plays a quirky Belgian detective named Hercule Poirot. The series is written by Clive Exton, but based on Agatha Christie's classic crime stories. Meticulous in his work as a private detective, Poirot exercises his "little grey cells" to help the police solve crimes and murder mysteries, whether they request his services or not. Captain Hastings, Poirot's side-kick, is played by Hugh Fraser and Phillip Jackson plays the role of Inspector Japp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't confuse COLLECTIONS & SEASONS... 29 Jan 2011

If you're collecting episodes of Poirot, be aware that there is a set of 'SEASONS' (12 of them) and a set of 'COLLECTIONS' (there are 8 'Collections'). I suggest you stick to one set or the other, then never the twain shall duplicate...

5.0 out of 5 stars Poirot begins 4 May 2008
This first collection contains the following episodes;

Season One 1989

The adventure of the Clapham cook
Murder in the mews
The adventure of Johnnie Waverly
Four and twenty blackbirds
The third floor flat
Triangle at Rhodes
Problem at sea
The incredible theft
The king of clubs
The dream

Season 2 1990 (first four episodes)

Peril at End House (part 1 and 2)
The veiled lady
The lost mine

The series begins strongly and gets even better as it progesses. Perfect casting, acting, continuity etc.

Suchet and the rest are all perfectly cast. Drama done to perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Great Viewing 21 Oct 2011
By M. Dowden HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
I am a great Christie fan, I have probably read all the stories she wrote and nearly all of her plays (apart from 2, which I still need to get, and yes I do have the script of 'The Mousetrap'). I remember when these first appeared on tv, so it is great to be able to sit back, relax and watch them all over again. If you never have never watched them before, these episodes are shorter than the ones that were shown last on tv, this is because they were originally using the short stories. As these stories, as originally written are basic mysteries this was an ideal place to start with, and thus build up the characters. Indeed I find it impossible to read any of the stories now and not immediately imagine David Suchet, Hugh Fraser, Pauline Moran, and Philip Jackson in their roles.

On this four disc set you have The Adventure of the Clapham Cook, Murder in the Mews, The Adventure of Johnnie Waverly, Four and Twenty Blackbirds, The Third Floor Flat, Triangle at Rhodes, Problem at Sea, The Incredible Theft, The King of Clubs, The Dream, Peril at End House, The Veiled Lady and, The Lost Mine. In all that is thirteen episodes, and although there are no extras here there are subtitles available for those who need them.

David Suchet is the definitive Poirot, and Hugh Fraser really makes a proper formed character out of Hastings, so much so that when my dad saw some of this disc set he couldn't stop going on about Hastings, rather than Poirot. An ideal present for any Christie fan (unless they already have it) there are also other colections available on this site.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poirot Series 1 30 Aug 2009
By Ezzie
It took me a matter of a few days to watch the whole of series 1 because it was so good. In my opinion, the best episode is Peril at End House because the plot is cleverer and there are more twists than in the other episodes. The weakest episode (in my opinion) is The Veiled Lady, where the opposite is true - a weak plot; not one that you need to use your 'little grey cells' for! I can't wait to watch series 2.

Collection 1 is an outstanding compilation of entertaining Poirot mysteries. David Suchet is by far my favorite Poirot, and I find every one of these mysteries to be a lot of fun!
