After a childhood rampant with uncertainty, Lydia Pallas has carved out a perfect life for herself. She spends her days within sight of the bustling Boston Harbor, where her skill with languages has landed her an enviable position as a translator for the U.S. Navy.

Lydia's talents bring her to the attention of Alexander Banebridge, a mysterious man in need of a translator. Driven by a campaign to end the opium trade, Bane is coolly analytical and relentless in his quest. He cannot afford to fall for Lydia and must fight the bittersweet love growing between them.

When Bane's enemies gain the upper hand, he is forced to turn to Lydia for help. Determined to prove her worth, Lydia soon discovers that carrying out Bane's mission will test her wits and her courage to the very limits.

When forces conspire against them from without and within, can their love survive?

5.0 out of 5 stars adventure & romance 26 July 2015

Book trailer:

Awesome adventure vigilante romance story **with some Christian/spiritual elements**

1. Lydia's Adventure - I was on **tenterhooks** throughout her mission to escape the baddies.

2. Awesome lead characters: solid, likeable characters with depth and NO clichés.
No rich, tall, dark, handsome man to save the day. It was Lydia. And the romantic lead/hero was far removed from the rich darkly handsome cliché

3. Awesome supporting cast - particularly Lydia's colleague's - even silly Willis. I love how this author really brings the characters to life.

4. NO insta-lust or quick dash romance. A simmering build-up between the MC's that's witty and full of chemistry.

5. Banter - LOVED the WITTY comebacks and hot flirtation.

6. Opium details and withdrawal related parts were >>fascinating<< to read

7. Brilliant PLOT & subplots - the Orphanage backstory and Lydia's childhood and her funny father was a poignant and emotional read.

8. There's a taboo forbidden element to Lydia's attraction to the hero as he had (initially) devoted his life to fighting drugs. And has powerful enemies who would go after those whom he loves. It's very $exy the way he tries hard to represses his growing attraction and emotions for Lydia.

1. Some may take exception to the **Christianity** (it's not much - but it's there)

2. A Few plot-holes: but that might be just my ignorant understanding of the era. But I didn't understand how to Professor got away with kidnapping kids for so long

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and suspenseful! 30 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Against the Tide is the story of Lydia Pallas, a translator for the US Navy. Lydia is a confident, intelligent woman who has some quirks that made me laugh but are due to her painful past. Lydia just wants a life of stability and routine. She meets Bane through her employer and initially she dislikes Bane. Bane then comes to Lydia for some translator help. The journey that Lydia and Bane embark on is one of suspense and page turning drama. I honestly could not put this book down! I kept turning pages well into the night!
