Selling records and winning awards are the things that have always come easy to Phil Collins. He has sold 100 million solo records and another 150 million with Genesis, putting him in the same rarefied league as Madonna, Elton John and Pink Floyd. His numerous awards include seven Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar (for You’ll Be In My Heart from Disney’s Tarzan).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album! 2 Jan 2014
By Ambo
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have this on vinyl and spotted it here on CD. So glad to get hold of a CD copy. Full of great tracks above and beyond the Phil Collins title track. Side 1 is a mix of artists at their 1980's peak (Phil Collins/Stevie Nicks/Peter Gabriel/Big Country/Mike Rutherford/ Kid Creole) with tracks mostly unavailable elsewhere. Stevie Nicks' Violet & Blue is fantastic, as are the Big Country and Kid Creole tracks. Recording quality is very good too. Side 2 is all instrumental with Larry Carlton, one of my favourite guitarists of all time and Michael Colombier. Some of these side 2 instrumentals are clearly background movie soundtracks, but there are a couple of standout tracks, For Love Alone and The Race. Well worth owning a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion, Glamour, and Terror Mixed Together! 7 Feb 2001
By Ben Riddle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
"Against All Odds" is one of the few soundtrack albums you can still find that contain an ample amount of both songs by various artists and selections from the score---and split half and half no less.
Phil Collins' title track is played during the final credits, while the other five vocal tracks are heard during the scenes in Jake's (James Woods) night club. I echo the sentiments of another reviewer who says that this album might otherwise be a Genesis reunion compilation, since Phil, Peter Gabriel (who sang for Genesis long before Phil did), and Mike Rutherford, the guitar/bass player, all contribute to the album. (Yes, Mike actually sings!)
The six tracks from the score are some of the darkest pieces of music I own in my collection. Specifically, "The Search" (Main Title) takes you right inside Terry's (Jeff Bridges) mind as he begins his journey in Mexico, looking for Jessie (Rachel Ward). The steamy guitar solo in "For Love Alone" will almost certainly strike up a mood for a night of passion. And the palpitating percussions on "Murder of a Friend" will never get out of your head! Need to experience something a little different in your background music? Play this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, And An Extra Treat For Genesis Fans 13 Aug 2005
By Alan Caylow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The soundtrack to the 1984 film "Against All Odds" is an excellent album, and, if you happen to be a Genesis fan, you'll also appreciate that no less than three past members of Genesis contribute solo tracks. Of course there's singer Phil Collins with his classic, Oscar-nominated title song, but also making appearances are singer Peter Gabriel and his rhythmic track, "Walk Through The Fire", and guitarist Mike Rutherford, who contributes the pulsating rock of "Making A Big Mistake" (Mike also does a rare lead vocal on the song as well). Also onboard with great songs are Stevie Nicks, Big Country, and Kid Creole & The Coconuts (remember them?). The second half of the album features the instrumental music from the film, performed with great flare by Michel Colombier and veteran guitarist Larry Carlton, including the spooky "The Search," the romantic shades of "For Love Alone," and the manically percussive "Murder Of A Friend." "Against All Odds" is a great soundtrack disc. I highly recommend it to anyone, but I think Genesis fans in particular should take notice of it for the contributions from Phil, Peter, and Mike. (NOTE: Peter Gabriel's song, "Walk Through The Fire," as it appears on the soundtrack album, is great, but it was an even better song when it was released as a single, as it was remixed with a stronger percussion track. I hope the single version of "Walk Through The Fire" will resurface in the near future, either on a Gabriel rarities collection or box set.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Against All Odds Soundtrack Review 22 Aug 2005
By Samadhi Girl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The soundtrack is good, but I actually bought it for just one song,'My Male Curiosity,' by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. The song is really good, but I couldn't find it ANYWHERE else. Amazon had it, the price was great, and the delivery was fast, so it was worth it.

It's 2004 & this CD is still as hot as it was upon release. Beautiful, moody, moving music.

I've always believed that the movie "Against all odds" was an interesting attempt at making great film noir. That's why I've seen it several times. I bought the soundtrack because of the haunting title song by Phil Collins and the incredible score by Larry Carlton and Michel Colombier. The melodies "For love alone", "The Search", and "El Solitario" are top notch. The rest of the album, however, is extremely dissapointing. All the remaining songs unfortunately are second rate. Still, I recommend it. It is worth it to have the score of this film in your music collection.
