Product Description

Product Description

The new album from Nosound featuring former Porcupine Tree drummer Chris Maitland Nosound return in April with Afterthoughts, their new studio album. For the album Giancarlo Erra and the band have been joined by the former Porcupine Tree and Blackfield drummer, Chris Maitland. Afterthoughts is the Nosound's fourth studio album, their first since 2009's A Sense Of Loss. That album was described by Goldmine as 'Nosound's most accomplished recording' (4/5) and Prog magazine stated that 'the expression of their loss is indubitably our substantial gain'. Since then Nosound have also released the 2011 semi-acoustic album, The Northern Religion Of Things and the recent EP, At The Pier, as well as playing regular live dates around Europe. Maitland also appeared on At The Pier and his powerful and inventive drumming has added a new dimension to the Nosound dynamic which is sure to impress fans, new and old.

I was entranced by 'Sol29'. It had a unique style, it expanded the mind and the soul; at times, in moments of quiet sensitivity it could amplify belief and desire. In short the music contained in the album was an experience. It is I think one of my top albums. I bought 'Afterthoughts' hoping for some development of the Sol29 experience. In 'Afterthoughts' I did not find it. Ever so slightly disappointing; lots of the same soulfull themes, unmistakeably NoSound in style, but seriously lacking that spirit-wrenching twist that Sol29 seemed to provide in abundance. It may be that I have not played it enough. I will give it a few more spins. However you really cannot get away from your first impression. It is like a sandwich without the filling. Edible but pretty bland. Sorry guys.

It may take some time, but when listening to this album repeatedly it actually grows to - perhaps not a masterpiece - but a very, very good album, indeed. One of the absolute best releases of 2013. Strong songwriting, tasteful arrangements and guitarplaying and drumming of the highest quality.

Fantastic album from Giancarlo Erra's main band ( least we forget Memories of Machines Also available on Amazon). This new Nosound album features Former Porcupine Tree Drummer Chris Maitland I am sure you have seen the adverts. The music is in the what I would call ambient Prog though that maybe doing the music a disservice. There are all sorts of musical cue Pink Floyd Porcupine Tree maybe even Robert Fripp, it is however Giancarlo's baby and he should be proud of the time and money he has invested in this.
The album is moody atmospherics throughout and the opener 'In my Fears' sets the tone for the album, 'The Anger Song' and 'Wherever you are' are highlights, but the best part of this is it comes with a 5.1 mix (MLP for DVDA players and DTS for any other DVD and Blu ray player) which is demo disc quality, sound field and instrument placement are top drawer putting to shame some so called professional mixers. The disc was also authored by Giancarlo Erra.
A highlight album for this year a new album a brilliant surround mix and a pretty neat album. Roll on the next instalment.
