5.0 out of 5 stars Was it ever worth the wait?! 17 Sep 2012
Format:Audio CD
Those who dismiss Richie Sambora as "the guitar player from Bon Jovi" just haven't opened their ears or minds to the sheer talent of this man. From the opening chord this latest album shows Richie's skills, his pure vocals and brilliant musicianship as well as the well-known lyrical guitar playing. The emotion in some of these songs is raw, touching heart and soul, and some things expressed are those many of us can relate to...
Forget all your pre-conceptions, this album rocks - it's hard and heavy and soft and emotional and lyrical and - utterly brilliant - utterly Sambora. Don't delay, get it - and open your ears.

Richie Sambora has been at the top of the rock tree for decades, as the lead guitarist for megastars Bon Jovi. However, as anybody with even a fleeting knowledge of music will testify, Sambora's contributions are far from limited to just the fretboard - he not only co-writes the bulk of the bands work with lead singer Jon, but is a gifted vocalist in his own right, integral to Bon Jovi's sound. His vocal talents were displayed in stunning fashion when, in 1991, he released his first solo album 'Stranger In This Town'. A classy, blues infused record packed with quality, 'Stranger...' saw him gain a legion of fans, receptive to his work outside of the monstrous shadow of his parent band. The tour which followed cemented Sambora as a frontman in his own right, handling guitar and vocals with aplomb while delivering superb versions of his own material and Bon Jovi classics.
1998 saw his second solo release, 'Undiscovered Soul', a mature, sensitive and beautifully crafted album which left you in no doubt that Sambora could easily make his name as a solo artist full time if he so desired. His constant workload of tours and albums with Bon Jovi have meant fans have had to wait a long time for solo album number three, but finally 'Aftermath Of The Lowdown' has arrived. Was it worth the wait though?
Explaining the title by stating "This is the truth, the lowdown, and after you speak that truth, there's always an aftermath," originally had me worried. Sambora has had his problems over the past few years and I feared that he might be tempted to become a little bit maudlin, as lyrically the press release said he was dealing with everything from single parenthood to substance abuse to divorce.

I am a big Bon Jovi fan but didn't really like Richie's previous solo efforts - this however is modern with a few different styles of rock - awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Classic! 7 Oct 2012
Format:Audio CD
For anybody who doesn't know about Richie Sambora's talents, here's a simple equation.
Great Guitarist + Great Singer + Great Songwriter = Great Album!
If you like hard rocking tracks, then there is blistering opener Burn The Candle Down, cool guitar-driven Sugar Daddy and the "stuck in the head chorus" Learning How To Fly...
If you like heart felt ballads, then there is the Bernie Taupin co-written Weathering The Storm, the building I'll Always Walk Beside You and the, beautiful and brutally honest, You Can Only Get So High.
For contempary, radio friendly mid-tempo stuff check out the catchy lead single Every Road Leads Home To You, the dynamic Nowadays or the, quite simply brilliant, Seven Years Gone - what an incredible and natural voice Richie has!
All in all this is a classic album, without a duff track on it.
Buy it, listen to it, listen to it some more - and then you'll find you've just bought an album destined to be up there in your favourite albums list.
Fantastic stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Mix of Hard Rock + Soft Rock 11 Mar 2013
By Jake.s
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Massive fan of Bon Jovi and Richie's solo work. I was blown away by Richie's previous works hearing the bluesy elements mixed with his own guitar playing style yet being completely separate from his songs with Bon Jovi. Songs like 'burn that candle down' and 'nowadays' are real hard rockers that are very different from his previous two albums but still add uniqueness to his style. Other songs like 'every road leads home to you' and 'world' are softer songs that although very slightly cliché have a softer rock sound which for me gives this album a great balance. Highlights: 'Every road', 'You can only get so high' and my favourite 'Seven Years Gone'. Only bad point is that with "back-seat driver" a very good song (with an epic end solo)I had to download from Itunes as it is not on the UK releasing. 9/10 Stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid stuff 13 Jan 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Loved Richies last solo outing.... but this is more AOR and bluesy with some obvious fillers. BUT...when it's good it is amazing, the more melodic songs are really catchy and stay with you, coupled with some heartfelt lyrics sung with passion then you get what JBJ have been lacking for quite some time.
So ignore the fillers and simply enjoy the better tunes on offer.

Worth buying for the handfull of standout tracks alone!!
