'I knew the boy was different when I saw him walk on water'. That has to be one of the best opening lines I've read in a while and immediately I wanted to sit down, curl up and begin reading. I'm a huge fan of Tamsyn and her young adult paranormal novels. This is the third one I've read and the second time I've come into contact with Skye Thackery.
Skye Thackery is no ordinary teenager. She can see and communicate with ghosts. After the heartache of a failed relationship in the previous story, Skye's hormones are raging and when she finds Owen, her feelings are misguided. Can she kiss him? And surely she can't call a ghost her boyfriend? But worse is to come when she realises the danger that Owen is in. Skye sets out to help him, putting herself into danger too.
I find Tamsyn's books so unbelievably believable. The world that she creates and the characters she portrays are exceptional. Technically speaking, this is a young adult novel, but there are so many one liners and fantastic ideas that even, ahem, forty somethings can enjoy this series. It's fun, yet dark and dangerous in places. Tamysn includes so many things I never had as a teenager but are clearly part of today's world, which gives it a current spin, such as XBox, Itunes and Facebook. The ending was superb, full of atmosphere, terror and excitement. The final chapter put my mind at rest perfectly - just how a good book should be. I'm already looking forward to my next fix.
