The series centres around Jimmy Venible (played by Nicholas Lyndhurst), a jack-of-all-trades who is probably the only man in Britain who gets divorced and ends up with his mother-in-law.
The father of two moves back into the marital home to look after his children after his wife decides to take her nursing skills to a Third World natural disaster. The only problem for Jimmy is that his mother-in-law (played by Celia Imrie) decides she's going to help him.
Add to this a daughter (played by Tracy Beaker's Dani Harmer) who's sure she's already a woman and a son who dresses like one, and you get a sense of the challenges Jimmy faces as he tries to be a real father on a daily basis.

Great, we really loved to see this. I bought it for my wife, but we all had great pleasure watching it. It is as funny and enjoyable as a "true" sitcom can be. Great actors, nice chaos in the family and funny outcomes of it in each episode. We are watching the 2nd and 3rd series now. We loved it as much as we liked "My Family".

Whoever has said that this comedy is boring or over-acted doesn't know what they're talking about! This comedy is easy to watch and you can easily get to like or dislike some characters. Nicholas Lyndhurst is still on top form and clearly hasn't lost his spark. Celia Imre is hilarious as the over the top grandma we all get embarrassed by. Dani Harmer has come such a long way since Tracey Beaker and is turning into a fine young actress. Ryan Sampson as Alex is just magic! The way he portrays the character is just right. A lad who doesn't want to grow up and is quite happy staying as a young boy, but who shows a sensitive side and a deep connection with his dad, Jimmy Venebles in an episode in series one. I would recommend this undoubtedly to anyone! A classic British comedy which can be enjoyed by all the family! A must have in your DVD collection.
