More About the Author

In 1977 Roisin Meaney finished a sentence and won a car. The sentence was 'I would like to win a Ford Fiesta because my father won't let me drive his.' In the 24 years that followed she wrote a lot more sentences and won a lot more prizes. In 2001 she finally decided to keep writing sentences until she filled a book. Since then she's written eleven adult novels and two children's books. Her work has been translated into German, Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch and Italian. Two of her books have also been published in the US: Semi-Sweet (previously Love in the Making) and Life Drawing for Beginners (previously The Things We Do for Love).

Six of Roisin's novels have made it into the Irish bestseller list, with The Last Week of May (2007) and The People Next Door (2008) securing the number one and two slots respectively. One Summer (2012) and After the Wedding (2014) are both set on Roone, a small island off the west coast of Ireland, and feature the same cast of characters.

Her eleventh novel, Two Fridays in April, was published in March 2015, and her twelfth as yet untitled book, the third in the Roone series, is due out in time for Christmas 2015. For more information see www.roisinmeaney.com, find her on Facebook or follow her on Twitter @roisinmeaney

Product Description

Review

This is supreme chick-lit. Plot-driven, sometimes funny, and crammed with faulty, erring, ornery human beans. (Irish Independent)

'A charming and compelling tale ... I loved it' Melissa Hill

Please note that this is the follow up to One Summer and may contain spoilers if you haven't read the first book yet. Don't say I didn't warn you!!

I put off writing this review for quite some time. When the review is written, that's it, it's over....no more Roone...and that's depressing :(

Let's face it. There was no way I wasn't going to love this book. I feel in love with Roone in One summer. I personally think A few fans should get together, buy an Island off the coast and name it Roone. It's just so perfect..

Okay enough swooning.

So here we are, back on Roone. Some familiar faces, some new. Some have come back...and some have not :(. I was saddened to hear that some of the characters would not be heard from in this novel. I can't say any more without spoiling but lets just say it tugged at the heart strings.

Tim is long gone..in Dublin with Katie and everyone on Roone is trying to get on with life. Nell is preparing for her wedding, Laura has turned Walters house into a b&b and Imelda and Hugh are welcoming a new foster girl.

Life seems idylic until a young child goes missing while her family is visiting the Island. The community is ripped in too. This sort of thing just doesn't happen on Roone. Coming from a small town, I really could really relate to this. When the crime rate is low something like this can really make you question everything you knew about the place you grew up in. Weeks and weeks go by with no sign of the girl. Was it an accident or something more sinister? Could there be a murderer at large on Roone?

Roisin, you have done it again! You have written yet another very enjoyable story with engaging, well drawn characters and lovely descriptions of an island which one could imagine easily.
I have enjoyed all your novels and look forward to the next.

Firstly thank you to Hachette Ireland for sending me a copy of this story to review, and also for providing 2 copies for the giveaway at the end of this review – make sure you enter!

The story is set on the island of Roone and is all about it’s inhabitants who form the close knit community. We join the islanders before the wedding of two of the characters, and on returning to the Island after their wedding they return to find the Island has been rocked by a tragedy.

There is something in the writing of Irish authors that lures you into a story and keeps you hooked throughout; a charm in their style. That is no different here. Roisin captures you from the very beginning and firmly imbeds you in the island community.

The story starts with the disappearance of a young girl from a family of holidaymakers and follows the characters through the series of both fortunate and unfortunate events that unfold after it. It portrays the reality of life in a stark contrast to the idyllic island setting.

The story of the missing girl is a constant theme throughout the story, sometimes directly in the search for her and sometimes indirectly in the islanders now looking at life and trying to find more positives. The narrative comes from each of the characters in the main cast and this really helps to create the community atmosphere and the sense of everyone coming together in bad and good times to become stronger.

Based on reading this novel I will definitely be looking out for more from this author. I think you will enjoy this if you have previously enjoyed Zoe Miller and Penny Vincenzi novels.

The setting of the story is beautifully written, the issues of fostering, lost love, bereavement very sensitively and clearly told. The inter-weaving if the relationships in a small community so truly depicted - a great read.

Have just finished reading this after "One Summer". What truly lovely and heartwarming books, in my opinion as good as those of Maeve Binchy. I warmed to all the main characters and liked the fact that difficulties weren't glossed over in relationships and that the dialogue was very natural - just as you imagine people DO speak to one another, naturally and with humour. I didn't want this last book to finish and hope that maybe the author will return to Roone for her next book, carrying on the story of Nell and James, Laura and all her twins, Hugh and Imelda and the other characters who have peopled my thoughts and emotions these last few days.
