4.0 out of 5 stars Much more than just a rap album 11 Jan 2009
By Mr. Stuart Bruce TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Cadence Weapon's second album is full of surprises. Primarily it's a rap album, but it's so much more diverse, both lyrically and musically, than most other rap albums I can think of.

In places there's quite a Roots Manuva flavour- plenty of electronics, squelchy noises. "Tattoos" heavily features guitars, "Do I Miss My Friends" is almost an acapella ballad, "We Move Away" is pretty much techno- and all of it done pretty well.

The lyrics are less often about the rapper himself and more often about the world around him, which is always good. If you like the style of Scroobius Pip, you'll like this. The title "Afterparty Babies" and tracks like "Unsuccessful Club Nights" are refreshingly self-depreciative and funny.

This album came out of nowhere for me, but it's one of my favourite albums of 2008.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album 11 Mar 2008
By David C. Deandrea - Published on Amazon.com
Cadence Weapon has put out another excellent CD. At first listen some songs will stick out as a good listen and others might not. But as the case with a lot of good music a couple of spins leads to an increased appreciation of all the songs on the album. If you like Ghost, Del, Saul Williams, K-os, Kool Keith...you'll dig this.

2.0 out of 5 stars I would have liked it better in the 80s. 23 Nov 2009
By Paul G. Sundling - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This reminds me more of the style of some music in the 80s. While I generally love 80's music in general, the specific style used on this album has fallen out of favor with me. It's been a while since I listened to it, I only have the one line summary I left with the CD: "lame except tracks 12,14". So I listened to it a little more today. I could do better myself if I had a backing track. Of course, it's not uncommon for me to come up with my own lyrics while playing rockband. Still, the difficulty level for most of the music is pretty low. The execution of that is ok.

One the scale of 1 to 5. I'd give everything a 1 or 2 except 12 and 14 which would be 5 star. If it weren't for those 2 tracks I would probably have passed the CD on.

12: House Music - great dancy groove with a hilarious interview ending the track.
14: We Move Away - another great groove that I listened to by itself for hours.
