5.0 out of 5 stars Past recalled 27 Sep 2009
Fascinating story. Very cleverly and sensitively written with loads of 70s detail. Neil Jackson is the victim's son and is of the same generation as me. The clarity with which the book brought back a lot about that period is indicative of the thoroughness of the research and the way it is presented. Best book I've read in a long while.

4.0 out of 5 stars forgotten victims 1 Sep 2009
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I think I have read all the " Ripper" books. I was resident in Leeds at the time and can well remember the tension in the city. This book though is different as it tells the story in some detail of the effects on the son of the victim, his family neighbours and friends. It really is an eye opener and reminds us all and especially those reponsible for investigating crime and those reposiblew for the future of the villain to consider much more fully the effects the murderer has on those bereaved and their well being. Very well written and though detailed is not " Heavy". Itis to this sons credit that he came through his truama eventually and a credit to the author for sensitivy and thorough research. Well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 28 Jan 2013

It was good to read the story from an older child of one of the Ripper's victims. This story is told without self pity but gives it to us straight. I totally admire this young man.

By Kim
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a book about the victims of the Yorkshire Ripper, told from the perspective of one of the victims childen. It tells of the utter devestation that occurs in the families left behind. His mum was the second victim and the family were unaware that she had begun working as a prostitute in the weeks before her death. He followed the police investigation, hoping that the Ripper would be caught. Unfortunately the crimes occured before the national database was introduced- and although the murderer was interviewed several times he wasn't picked up. He was actually arrested for an unrelated offence.

I remember the case - and this book makes you think about the tragedies from a different angle.

This was one of a handful of books that I picked up in a charity shop yesterday- and despite it's upsetting theme was an interesting read

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read! 21 Aug 2009
This book tackles a difficult subject, one that most people would not have thought about; The children of the victims of a serial killer.
Although incredibly sad, the story has the reader gripped throughout, it really is a very enjoyable read and very well written.
