3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but not as good as the first two 29 Mar 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the 3rd book in the Lords of Vice series. Lady Regan Bishop has the Earl of Chillingsworth aka Frost as her legal guardian. She has grown up fully aware of the Lords of Vice and their reputations. But as she matures into a young woman, she finds herself falling for Lord Hugh Mordare aka Dare. He notices himself wanting her, so decides it is best to put some space between them. However, he ends up kissing her and when her guardian, Frost, finds out, she is sent away to learn how to behave like a lady. Some time later, her lessons are over, but they have done nothing to dampen her feelings for Dare. She knows he wanted her five years ago, and hopes he still feels the same.
Dare has his own past. He fell for a lady, but she married his brother instead. He knows his brother is no gentleman, so finds himself drawn into helping her when she asks for it. It is hinted that they share a child, so that's why he helps her out so much. He also struggles to cope with his emotions when he sees Regan again, and realises that he can't keep away from her much longer.

Overall, the book was good, but not as good as the first two in the series. I hope to see more books with the other Lords of Vice characters, especially Frost. He's a character begging to be written about!

2.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy, predictable trash 15 Mar 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I don't usually review books I buy as there is generally a fair range of opinions in the reviews already written. For Alexandra Hawkins' books this doesn't appear to be the case yet and I can only assume the previous reviewer has not yet read any decent romance authors.
Ms Hawkins is sloppy (or her editing team are) and her research is very lazy. I have come across this before in historical romance and, if the story and writing style are good enough, I can turn a blind eye to glaring historical inaccuracies. In this case, I couldn't because the inaccuracies were on every other page, she really should be writing contemporary if she has this bad a feel for the Regency period.
The characters are utter cliche and not even internally consistent and the plot is so very predictable, it was joke. In fact, these books are just like very bad parodies of the books of better authors such as Eloisa James and Julia Quinn (although those two do appear to be going through bad patches themselves).
Her only redeeming quality is that she writes an adequate sex scene but, as in the romances these authors' write about, it's not supposed to be all about the sex!
Maybe she'll develop as an author but I don't think I'll be trying her work again.
