Book Description

24 May 2012 178057522X 978-1780575223

'In the pit of my stomach, as I kissed my four-year-old son Lio and my darling wife Sasha goodbye, I knew something was up. By that evening, the police had told me about the crash.

'Lio's bright and talented mother was killed that day, and he narrowly escaped the same fate. But instead of it being an ending for us, the crash was a beginning.

'Lio's miraculous recovery from severe brain damage and a coma defied medical science. As I witnessed his astonishing journey - from intensive care bed to 10 Downing Street - and fought to pull him through horrific injuries and the loss of his mother, I found real purpose and meaning for the first time in my life.'

After the Crash is much more than a moving personal story. It's a handbook for dealing with disaster, not just surviving it but mastering it and using it to transform your life for the better.

This book soars way above the usual 'I have survived' genre. It challenges everyone involved in the healing professions to re think their expectations of patients in their care and what is possible. Through the poignant words of Martin's wife, Sasha we are also challenged to live a beautiful life. The writer does not spare us the raw truth of he and his son's struggle and how together they fight limitation, pain and pessimism to create beauty from loss, however as other reviewers have said although tears flow, ultimately this reader was uplifted by 'After the Crash' which affirms the human will not only to survive but to thrive and claim an inheritance of joy .

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and inspirational 24 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Martin and Lio's story carries you along with a love that shines through each page. Tears have freely flown but so have smiles and inspiration. An excellent read, but also a life lesson on fighting for a better outcome than presented. Bravo Lio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking but yet Wonderful heartfelt story! 6 July 2012
By Spunky
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was in England Sept 2006 when this crash occured. My cousin knew Martin Spinelli's wife Sasha. When I heard of this, my heart broke for the man and wondered how the boy was doing after the crash. As soon I arrived back home to US, I looked up any update news about the boy and how he was doing because my mind kept going back and thinking about this awful day that changed everyone's life. Finally I was able to come across a website Martin put out for his son Lio Spinelli, over the years I have kept in touch and was amazed how well he was coming along. I heard that Martin wrote a book and I decided to get the book to read it to learn more about everything of what he went through, what Lio went through in life. From the moment the book arrived, I started to read it, it was a moment that I couldn't put the book down - I kept reading through the book almost straight through, the trials and tribulations of what Martin went through the loss of his wife and saving his son's life by doing what he felt was the best thing for his son. With his love and care along w/ many other family members really pulled Lio back from the brink of death. This is one WONDERFUL and HEARTFELT story not to be missed. You won't be disappointed at all w/ this book, it makes you feel you are in Martin's shoes and what he is feeling and going through. It has made me realized that life is too precious and be sure to tell your loved ones how much you love them because one day you will never know how quick a life can be changed in matter of blink of an eye! The best part for me was the ending and how beautiful it was to honor his late wife Sasha.
