Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By C. Penty on 19 Oct. 2003
Format: Audio CD
This album is a brilliant example of Mongo Santamaria's talents as a band leader and indeed as one of the greatest conga players on the NuYorican Funk Scene. In this combination of these two great albums, Mongo creates his very own unique 'Latin Jazz Funk' style; 'Funk Up' & 'Mambomongo' are two fantastic songs on the Afro-Indio side (Mambomongo providing the more traditional side to the album). While 'A La Carte' includes songs such as 'Guajiro', and 'Bomboro', the two most traditional songs of the album creating a killer mix of Cuban and Funk styles.

I got this for "Los Indios". For me the rest "Afro-Indio" was very ordinary early 70's funk.

"A La Carte" scarcely made an impression. More of the same except with more of a mid-70's 'disco' or 'verging on disco' feel beginning to creep in.

Eventually I got tired of "Los Indios" and it left the house.
