From the first note of the opening track Afrodisiac you know you are in for a musical delight.
Then you check out the band line up and see JJ Johnson, Hank Mobley, Horace Silver, Cecil Payne, Oscar Pettiford, Art Blakey and Carlos Patato Valdes and you know you have found something very special.
Trumpeter Kenny Dorham worked in the musical shadow of Dizzy and Miles but in this 1955 recording showed that he deserves to be up there with the giants.
Full of life, stylish and brilliantly arranged this is a real classic landmark in the Jazz and Latin Jazz fields.

Originally released in 1955 as a 10 inch EP this is a definitive recording from trumpeter Kenny Dorham, the main track Afrodesia superbly fuses the Be Bop of North America with rhythms of Cuba. An essential purchase for Jazz collectors.

Having a slight bent for afro-cuban sounds I thought I couldn't miss with this one.
However,despite having a gang of top class support it leaves me a bit disappointed,and I've only subsequently played it in small doses.
