Product Description

Review

Stunning collection ... This archive provides a major source of design for those who want to expand on the exuberant and colourful patterns and utilise the images in a completely unique and personal way. Fabrications: Quilting for You The collection of contemporary printed fabrics presented in this book were sourced from manufacturers around the world: they reflect both traditional and current African design influences... The core of the book consists of close-up, near full page photographs of 109 colourful printed fabrics; the print details can be clearly seen. A brief description accompanies each photo, often including a reference to where the fabric was printed and for what market. The book's accompanying CD contains photographs of all 109 featured fabrics... This book will appeal to lovers of African design and anyone looking for a fresh approach to their own textile design. -- Dawn Willey, New Forest Guild The Journal for Weavers, Spinners & Dyers

4.0 out of 5 stars mainly contemporary 27 Feb 2012
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is for pattern designers and lovers of all fabrics African provided they are mainly looking for contemporary designs. Some of the fabrics are even produced in India. I would have liked to have seen more traditional designs from all over Africa. It reminds me very much of Schiffer's publications on the subject matter. This review was first published on yarnsandfabrics website.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource! 15 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
I found this book to be very insightful and well thought out. I was looking into African fabrics to identify new angles for my eco-street wear brand. The structure takes the reader straight to the heart of the design, and with a vibrant selection to review, you are not left without inspiration! Useful, relevant and easy to read. I have recommended this book to others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Photos of some African fabrics would be a better title 25 Aug 2013
By Yukon Gold - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book contains 6 pages of text with photos and 109 full page photos of some African fabrics. Most are close up photos so you cannot see the beauty of the whole piece of cloth. I bought this book because it claimed to "explain about the significance of the patterns". The book contains very little helpful information. Each page has a 1-2 line description such as: "This pattern of circles might be a representation of oranges." "this design comprises flowers with a zigzag pattern."

Nice photos - not much information is shared.
