5.0 out of 5 stars have no preconceptions about this african girl!, 29 Mar 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
If you think of nigeria the last thing you expect is one of the most remarkable latin/soul/pop/jazz albums i have heard for decades!

i was expecting african ryhthms, songs of politics and injustice all delivered in an angry fashion...wrong! wrong! wrong!

nayo has a voice of a songbird and the songs are beautiful love songs!

The album is so easy on the ears it is easy to see the comparisons with sade and early Everything but the girl but it owes more than passing similarity to lisa stansfield none more so than the title track and first single. With airplay this could put the album at the top of the charts - simply because nobody is doing this sort of music anymore.

The album floats along wonderfully - the jazz tinged "overdose on love" reminds me of oleta adams, "fool for you" is lovely song of heartache over lost love, and very sade.

"desert storm" is flavoured with latin vibes and flamenco guitars, "harder than rock" reminds me of gloria estefan in her early days and "sparrow" is similar in style to roberta flacks "oasis" album.

her african roots shine through in the backing vocals to "mr so and so" and "hurting me anyway"

the last track "1+1" starts as an accapella track and then immerses you in a stunning track with an african choir.

i cant stop playing this album....its on constant repeat!

have no fear about buying this, nayo deserves to be a huge international star!!!! and if you enjoy this try and track down roberta flacks "oasis" album which was released in the early 90's...its very similar in style and flavour!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow, soulful, laidback, 29 Mar 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
Nayo says on her blurb that she's influenced by Sade and you can hear that especially in the title track - but that's no bad thing. Her voice is smoky and mellow with an almost jazzy edge to it, though her music is pure soulful soul. A laidback album for lazy rainy Sunday afternoons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, 13 April 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
That's how I would describe this album.
Her voice melts your heart, and the way she tackles each song is beautiful.
More than a little Sade was shining through on this album, and I loved it completely.
Favourite track, I would have to go with Desert Storm. It's sooo catchy, it's even appeared as my new ringtone.
A beautiful album anyone can enjoy. A beautiful voice....
This album is truly delicious.

I don't classify music by genre most of the time and I will not be doing so with this album. I classify it by where I would listen to it and why. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars That 1980s wine bar sound is back, apparently.
A pretty voice and some manicured production - Spanish guitars, some South American stylings - almost, but not quite, disguise the lack of any real songwriting ability here. Read more
