Product Description

Product Description

Southern Rhodesia, 1959. The dramas of living in this volatile state are brought to life by three families - the Bryants, the Ngwenyas and the Quilter-Phillipses. The Bryant family are vital to the survival of the black rhino. But with the damning of the Zambezi, they've got their work cut out. They spotted a young calf, named Makuti, which enforces their determination to protect the black rhino. The tensions between races and political factions steadily increase. Already-strained friendships and romances are nearly impossible to maintain when the young Natalie Bryant is kidnapped by political terrorists. As it sparks a chain of tragic events, no-one can ever return to the way things were. Yet, Makuti still survives. Zimbabwe, 2009. The survival of Makuti is of particular importance to all the families, as the demand for rhino horn escalates. Emmerson Ngwenya, the Zimbabwean Government's Assistant Minister for Land Redistribution, is quick to notice the opportunity to profit, and also to settle some old scores. Everyone is forced to confront the pasts that have shaped their lives, but with stakes being so high, is a future for all possible? With a heart-thumping pace and characters as colourful as the African landscape it depicts, Tony Park's unforgettable thriller will grip you to the core.

From the Back Cover

Natalie is ten years old when she is kidnapped by guerrillas from her grandparents' farm in Rhodesia. Bloodied, terrified, and beaten at the hands of her captor, her life is saved when a young soldier comes to her rescue. Thirty years later, Natalie returns to her homeland, now called Zimbabwe. She becomes embroiled in the dangerous world of rhino conservation. Hunters are making a fortune on the black market by selling the horns and the survival of the black rhino is at stake. Natalie and her family must fight - not only to save Zimbabwe's rhinos, but to save themselves from the enemies who surround them. Spanning fifty years and three generations, African Dawn is the breathtaking saga of three families dealing with dark secrets and violent threats.

Best one yet! 24 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
Another great read by Tony Park featuring two of the more poignant incident's of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe's history - the Viscount disasters and the farm invasions. Nice to see, too, characters Paul and Pip from African Sky make a return. Definitely his best book yet!
