This is a superb album; above all the beautifully re-mixed version of 'Alam'i' by the late, sadly lamented and hugely talented Touareg musician Koudede (see his website koudede.net)

Thought I might get a taste of new sounds, but it's a bit boring. It'll get played as background music in the car, but not turned up too loud.

The Circle of Blues 16 May 2012
By tiggerbone - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite CDs. I moved to Chicago a few years ago and have been delving into blues music from the electric blues of my new home down to the old style acoustic blues from the Deep South. But this CD is a revelation to me.

I knew intellectually that music does not exist in a vacuum and that the roots of the blues extend beyond this country, but it is another thing entirely to hear how well African musicians, instruments, and styles blend into it.

My personal favorite tracks are "Ni Koh Bedy" by Mali Latino (a group that I simply must track down after reading about them in the liner notes), "Camel Shuffle" by Amar Sundy, "Mali" by Kalaban Coura, "Djigi" by Issa Bagayogo, and "Groove in G" by Playing for Change. But truthfully, there is not a bad track in the bunch.

I highly recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys musical explorations, the blues, or Malian music.

The Blues did not just appear out of nowhere. 26 April 2012
By M. Cusanelli - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Blues did not just appear out of nowhere. Not only that it has bounced back and forth from America to Africa and back several times as styles and technology has changed. Putumayo's African Blues is a great example of that inspiration and influence that has occured since early in the last century.

GREAT CD 13 Jun. 2013
By SEAPAW - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I bought this on a whim (being a lover of blues) and the more I listen to it the more I'm becoming addicted to it. Very relaxing and refreshing and I love the instrumentation... a nice change from straight guitar and drums
. Highly recommended.

This CD is great for people who like Blues and latin music. I don't have 5 more words about this album.
Heard it, loved it, had to have it... 21 April 2014
By M. E. Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I was in a store on Friday and this was playing; I was aware of it as soon as I walked in. Soon I wasn't looking at anything on the shelves; I was just kind of drifting around enthralled in the sound. A nice lady came by eventually and asked if they could help me and I said, absolutely! Tell me about that music! It now sits in the #1 slot of my CD player in my car. Tonight, I invited my daughter out and we just sat and cranked the Bose system. It was magical. Bass throbbing, upper ranges crystal clear, the evening breeze cool and soon a robin came by to hang out on the garden fence swaying to the sound. You get that I love this music, right? So did my daughter. Smiling, eyes closed, head swaying slightly and after the third track she asks, "How in the world did you find this and what IS it? I LOVE IT!" The soul of it is alive and vibrant and it connects in a clean, clear and sweet way. Mesmerizing. Unspoiled. Real.
