A lovely, straightforward fable, engagingly told and accompanied by absolutely fabulous illustrations.

This is a book your children will ask for over and over again, and you will never get bored of reading it to them.

My only, slight, criticism is that the earlier print of this book was on nicer paper which improved the illustrations even more.

I love this book and so does my 2 year old son! The text is simple and well written and the pictures are bright and colourful. There is repitition of text which children find fun as they like to join in. I come from South Africa and found it fun to read some of the folklore from my country to my son.

My 4 year old Grandson loves this book as it is about his favourite subject, African animals. Can't go wrong with African stories.

on why the lion doesn't have a permanent home. My son loves animals, and likes this story, but I thought it wasn't very eloquent or lyrical, and that it could have been, which is why I didn't give it five stars. Even so, it's a great concept and the pictures are interesting.

These books are just the right length for reading at bedtime - written beautifully and with lovely pictures. I am collecting my second set for reading to the grandchildren! The first set was very well worn!

We read this book in class when we were looking at Literature written by authors from other Cultures. The children really loved the illustrations. When we were discussing the book they quickly understood that he was "a bit of a bully" and not very kind or thoughtful to others. The underlying message behind this lovely story came across really clearly and the words "helping, cooperation and sharing" were very prominent in the discussions. It is also an excellent book to use for children to use in a "role play" situaton.
