Product Description

The extraordinary story of three Rwandan kids who walk 3000 miles to the Soccer World Cup in South Africa. Using a sack load of ingenuity and sass (and a World Cup wall chart for a map), our pint-sized protagonists set off through the endless horizons of Africa in pursuit of an unlikely dream. And as they walk they gather a tribe - a ragamuffin team - of broken and brilliant characters who help them negotiate a way through a series of glorious, dangerous, hilarious and often bizarre situations. Through these kids, we will encounter an Africa few people ever get to see; experience the hard reality of an epic walk through seven countries; as well as the joy, laughter and hope - 'the ubuntu' - that comes from making an incredible journey together.

On the way to the vital selection trial, disaster strikes when Fabrice, Dudu and Beatrice board the wrong bus and cross into the Congo. Without papers, money or a believable story, they are escorted to a children's refugee camp. 5.0 out of 5 stars Africa United 17 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
This is a delightful, unusual film. I watched with my eleven year olds and a sixteen year old. All were gripped, amused and challenged. So was I. It's essentially a road trip through Africa following two kids to last year's World Cup Finals. The main boy is a fantastic character and you are hooked from his first speech. The trip is beautiful. The journey is exciting, and though unflinching about some tough realities, it's always entertaining.
It's inventive and rewarding, a grown up family film. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-see film, must-buy DVD 21 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
Africa United is a touching family film about a group of children walking through Africa to the South Africa world cup finals. Some marvellous and understated performances by the child actors are set against the stunning southern African backdrops.

This is a film to warm your heart and change the way you see the world. I'm looking forward to the DVD release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this film! 21 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
This is a great film. We saw it twice at the cinema and can't wait to get it on DVD, so if you missed it then definitely order it. Some fabulous performances from the kids, with brilliant one-liners and a great road trip story. It doesn't shy away from some of the issues that Africa faces, but it's great that you also get to see the positive side of such a beautiful continent with some fabulous people. Whether you've watching it with your kids or looking for a movie for a good night in then you can't go wrong with this film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seriously funny 6 Jun 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having spent not a few years of my life in Rwanda, and visited twice in the last few years my viewpoint for this film may be different from most other viewers.
It is a Road Movie that follows a 'fantasy' journey of 5 young Rwandans as they make a trip from Ruhengeri in Rwanda to South Africa to take a part promised to one of them in the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup. Its substance is that each of these youngsters exemplifies one of the major problems facing young people in Rwanda's recovery from the 1994 Genocide - HIV/AIDs, Child soldiering, Child prostitution etc.
It swings along through stunning African scenery. The writing is witty - the lines of the young 'Manager' being full of witty errors of phrasing, some of which are difficult to follow.
Opinion has been divided about the film's merit, several expert reviewers being entirely dismissive,on the grounds of naivety. I would say 'Good for a laugh' with an undercurrent of deep seriousness - 'Message received.'

Africa United [DVD] [2010]
I've shown it to 3 classes of 18 year-olds so far, and they loved it. It's funny while at the same time touching on very serious topics like child soldiers, sex slavery and Aids. It's been a very entertaining way of introducing my students to the United Nations Millennium Goals. Would make good family viewing too - a good conversation starter. Well worth seeing!
