Book Description

15 Jan 2014
In a compelling personal pilgrimage, Corinne Hofmann, author of the global bestseller The White Masai, delves into the slums of Nairobi to uncover the heart-warming and heart-breaking stories of unforgettable people and places, then treks 500 miles across the Namibian desert to discover the lives of the nomadic Himba people. Joined by her half-Kenyan daughter, Napirai, they travel to Nairobi together for the first time to discover Napirai s roots and finally meet her father and half-siblings. Africa, My Passion is a poignant, touching and exciting story about one woman's love affair with a unique man, which led to a lifelong obsession with Africa. Moving, vividly recounted, eye-opening and, above all, filled with passionate hope and unparalleled detail, this is an extraordinary sequel to a bestselling series of memoirs.

I've read Corinne's 3 previous book about her experiences in Kenya as The White Masai. I was hoping she was going to write about the day her daughter meets her father. What a lovely reunion once again. If you have loved her previous books, you will love this.

4.0 out of 5 stars AFRICA: MY PASSION 8 Feb 2014
By Dr S. S. Nagi TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This book was first published in 2011(2014), has 210 pages, 11 chapters, 31 colour pictures but no maps. This book was translated from German by Peter Millar. CORINNE HOFMANN (49) lives in Switzerland and once again travels to Africa. She tracks 500 miles across Namibia to discover the lives of Himba tribe and then goes back to the slums of Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya. She also travels to Barsaloi with her 1/2 Kenyan (Samburu) daughter- Napirai (20), to meet Lketinga and their African family.
In November 2008, Corinne travels to Northern India for 4 weeks, all the time remembering her stay in Samburu, Kenya. On return, she plans to visit Namibia for 6 weeks with 2 adventurers. On 15.5.2009, she flies to Windhoek. Up north, she visits the Etosha NP and observes the wildlife and later the Herero and Himba people. Further north, it is hot and Corinne gets blisters. They have 2 camels and a tracker. She manages to see desert elephants, giraffes, oryx, springboks, mountain zebra and baboons. After 720 km of trek, she returns to Switzerland, 12kgm lighter.
In February 2010, she goes to NAIROBI, Kenya for 4 weeks and rents a flat. She loves wandering in the African market, thankfully using her willies. Next day, she visits the largest slum in Kenya - the KIBERA, again needing her willies as she walks through dirt, mud and excrement. She meets some unfortunate ladies forced to live in the slum, because of their large families and no housing. Every body seems to be doing something to earn a few shillings. Most of them had come to Nairobi to look for a better life. Many were helped by Solidarite charity. She also meets Ingrid from Sweden, who devised a method of loaning money to desperate people, giving them a chance to improve themselves.

I enjoyed this book because I also have a passion for Africa particularly Kenya but because I have also visited Namibia. She gives a good account of the local tribe's customs, housing etc. Very interesting.
