Product Description

Book Description

One of the world's leading strategists on global oil exploration turns his critical eye to Africa's oil prize, to produce this definitive account of the issues and misunderstandings in Africa's oil and gas game.

Product Description

Based on thirty years in the global oil game, intimate knowledge of African history and direct experience of over forty countries, this comprehensive book shows that Africa's flaws are not the whole story, when it comes to the continent's history. A definitive yet original account of the rush for Africa's oil, this is also a guide to the hidden face of Africa. Duncan Clarke begins by placing African oil issues in their historical context before tackling the issues of power, nationalism and different parties' strategies for control that have led to today's oil scene. This book is the ultimate reference work on oil in Africa - which is vital to everyone's future around the world.

Truly ambitious 12 July 2010
By Antonio
Format:Paperback
This is an extraordinary book - not least because of the vast scope. It provides a picture of the oil industry throughout the continent, set in historical and political context. It covers not only the well-known areas, such as the Niger Delta, and the well-known multinationals, but also the smaller companies (even the minnows) and the places that have only recently started to show up on the oil industry's radar.

The paperback has an extra chapter in which the author reflects on the reception of the first edition and also surveys recent developments.

Unbiased and real 13 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
Due to professional purposes I had to read different books about African Oil. Most of books insist in defining African Oil as a curse or something related to Dutch disease. The vast majority of books on African Oil are biased and forget to take into account different perspectives and the historical context. Instead of going deep in the root of the problem most books just adopt a comfortable and generalist approach and find in Oil a culprit for all African malaises. Duncan Clarke takes a different approach. He understands and acknowledges some of the negative results of the African Oil but analyzes these results in historical perspective.
