4.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy the same book twice !, 8 Nov 2008
This review is from: 100 Afghan Squares to Knit (Hardcover-spiral)
This is a good book, but be aware that it is identical to the soft copy book "blankets and throws to knit' - but the title has changed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impatient knitter recommends..., 30 Oct 2005

This review is from: 100 Afghan Squares to Knit (Hardcover-spiral)
As a beginner knitter (and not a very patient one) I was looking for a book that would allow me to learn new techniques and create pleasing things as quickly as possible. I also had quite a stash of different yarns that I was keen to use up and thought that a patchwork book would be a good place to start. This book was just that. There is a good variety of patterns with loads of ideas for creating blankets and throws out of the hundreds of squares shown. The instructions are clear and there is a small section at the back which explains how to make the basic knitting stitches and a few decorative border patterns. Although this is not a book full of breathtaking beauty it has all the ideas and patterns I feel you would need to create a breathtaking and beautiful blanket!

This review is from: 100 Afghan Squares to Knit (Hardcover-spiral)
I was first introduced to this book at my make and munch club (we are a team of youngsters, middies, and oldies who meet together to create something to pass on to those less fortunate whilst at the same time to share and chat together).
We had decided to knit a throw and as there were lots of non knitters and knitters amongst us we thought some could teach and knit and the new knitters could learn to knit too. We have used the patterns within this book as they are easy and are an ideal way to learn different techniques. It is put in an easy to follow way and the squares can be mixed up from the different designs to create even more throws than that illustrated.
Although the overall throws are expensive to make it is easy to do in bits and pieces and for people with arthritis in their hands they can knit squares on their better days and still be able to enjoy the result. I love the book and will be able to do specialised gifts now for new babies, newly weds and my own home as it has designs that do not age. The yarns that are suggested are very serviceable and will wash and wear well. Highly recommend this book if you love knitting.
