Product Description

New price, new look and new format for this bestselling pop psychology classic.

You Can’t Afford The Luxury of a Negative Thought is an upbeat, accesible book about the power of positive thought – and about how negative thinking can wreck lives.

Negative thinking is seen as a debilitating illness that will slowly kill your spirit – and for some people lead to actual physical disease. Happily though, this is not a doom-filled book at all! The authors show how to:

Eliminate The Negative – spend less time thinking ‘down’ and negative thoughts.
• Accentuate The Positive – spend more time focussing on the positive things in your life.
• Latch On To The Affirmative – enjoy each moment!

Packed full of inspirational, funny, and moving quotes.

This book was written in part specially for those who have been diagnosed with severe illness. Negative thinking drags you down – whilst a truly positive approach will have a positive effect on your whole self – thus promoting good physical health. Though this book is a terrific inspirational read for anyone looking to recover health, it‘s essentially a big book about positive thinking and is certainly not limited to an ‘ill’ market!

From the Back Cover

Why do some people always seem so happy about their lives – and others so down even when they seem to have it all? The difference is the strength that comes from thinking positively.

Negative thinking wears us down, leaving us feeling powerless, as though happiness and success are only for other people. It's a bit like a disease – you can have it, you can catch it from someone else and you can even pass it on. But the longer you leave negative thoughts untreated, the worse they will make you feel. Negative thinking is powerful stuff – it can even make you physically ill – and it will certainly make it harder for you to recover if you do become ill.

Fortunately there's one thing more powerful than a negative thought – and that is, of course, a positive one!

Don't delay happiness! John-Roger and Peter McWilliams are the experts experts at helping people to see the lighter, brighter side to life – so read on – and learn the way to positive living.

Superbly written and immensely practical. This is a book I will refer to time and time again, and can thoroughly recommend to anyone who has ever been dogged with negative thinking. Also a worthwhile reference for anyone who is serious in wanting to help a friend as it will give you an insight into incorrect thinking patterns and allow you to assist their recovery from depression. Worth every penny and more - a book you shouldn't be without, I only wish I could have read it sooner.

This excellent book is divided into 2 parts: The disease and the cure, and the latter consists of 3 sections: Accentuate the positive, Eliminate the negative and Latch onto the affirmative. It explains the fight or flight response, the effect thoughts have on the body, and the question of death. It also deals with mourning, how to focus on the positive and has a useful section on depression. Suitable quotes by inter alia Freud, Santayana, Voltaire, Emerson, Russell, Shaw, Anais Nin, Epicurus, Whitman, Keller, Hippocrates, Oscar Wilde and Maria Montessori enhance the text and help to explain things. I would not say that it is absolutely the best self-help book I've ever read ( a little more emphasis on how to influence the subconscious mind would have been valuable), but it casts welcome new light on this thing called "common sense." It is a pleasure to read and I highly recommend it.

Initial impression given by the well worn cover was not great I have to say. However content pages were fine.

Positive & uplifting.
I cannot praise this book enough. It was first published in 1986, and when I read it then, I was impressed, though at that time, I did'nt need it as much as I do now. Read more
