Understandably, Lord Burford had some misgivings about hosting another house party at Alderley, his beautiful country mansion. After all, the previous two could at best be described as disastrous, since a couple of their guests were unceremoniously bumped off during their stay on each occasion. But with family members travelling down for the funeral of an elderly relative, the Earl really had no choice but to offer them accommodation. It didn't take long for things to start to go wrong. One of the guests claimed she had knowledge that would ruin the others' reputations, but luckily nobody took her seriously enough to take offence. At least, that's what they thought up until her body was found - Lord Burford had never been so relieved as when Chief Inspector Wilkins arrived - again!

I am so pleased that I found this series of books all of which I have now read and thoroughly enjoyed. Although they are all set in the same location they are quite varied, well drawn and all have more than a touch of humour with, on occasion, leanings towards farce. Great for a winter read.

I do alot of train and plane journeys and use them to catch up on chill out time. I am a great bed time reader as well and having read of Ms Christie's have discovered this author. Am glad I did.

loses the plot a bit
read the first two and enjoyed them , but he really loses the plot in this one, the whole drawing room/ stately house thing wears very thin and becomes boring. Read more

Not bad, prefer 39 Steps!!
A jolly read what! If you like a quaint drawing room murder this one's for you. Very gentle, no blood or gore, very amusing in parts with some comical characters. Read more
