Book Description

1 Feb 2004

My Dear Miss Wilson,

I have no wish to spoil your chances of meeting the decent and respectable man you desire. Yet I find I cannot idly sit back and accept that I will never see you again, or -- forgive me for my candor -- kiss you again. If I were like other gentlemen, I would say good-bye to you now and wish you the best. But I have not behaved as a gentleman for many years....Do you understand my meaning?

So begins a very wicked correspondence between the scandal-ridden Marquess of Rawdon and Clara Wilson, an heiress with more than a few of her own secrets to hide. Clara has come all the way to London to find respectability, but she has always craved excitement, and adventure has always sought her out. This time, excitement is a man unlike any she has ever met before, one who is stunning, brilliant, and definitely not what her mother had in mind. Clara's cautious younger sister Adele warns her to be wary and remember her past follies, but her spirited older sister Sophia urges her to risk it all for love. Clara knows the answer lies somewhere in between, but with her heart and her future on the line, the stakes will never be higher.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Affair Most Wicked 27 Mar 2005
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Clara Wilson,an American heiress has come to London to find a husband. She unwittingly attends a Chakras Ball, an affair where only married ladies, couples and 'rakes' are invited (basically the 1880's equivalent to a Swingers party!!!). Here she meets Seger a scandalous rake. After lots of misunderstandings and compromising positions they are finally united, but does true love run smoothly....well you will have to read the book to find out. This book is a really good, first rate romance which is quite raunchy is some places. The main characters are likeable and there's even a wicked stepmother for all you Cinderella fans. If you enjoy Johanna Lindsey's regency romps you will probably enjoy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but a bit predictive 15 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
it was free...so i bought it even though historical romance isn't really my genre but i have been surpised at times and enjoyed some so i was hoping. sadly this was not a great book - not a bad one either and i did finsih it but the characters were stilted, behaved oddly given the century - one can only excuse so much behavious with the "americans" excuse and though there was my fav ending - a HEA the whole was just too bland with little real controversy or adventure despite the plots which could have been fleshed out to give more emotion.

Its an ok book if you just want something to pass the time without having to concentrate too hard.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wished I had skipped some tof this book! 16 Jun 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I admit to being lazy and choosing this book mainly for the five star review, serves me right!

The amount of modern/ American like conversations in this book was more than I could normally ignore. Although quite raunchy in places (I will agree to that part of it's other review) the characters were pretty one dimentional and the repeated jealousy theme was wearing to say the least. Sadly I ended up disliking the female character, then the male character, until I only wanted to finish it so that I could start another book. I gave it three stars, I think I was being generous becuase it started well....sadly disappointing!

Better heiress books are...Once and Always (REG) by Judith McNaught or By Arrangement (MED) by Madeline Hunter.
