Product Description

Product Description

Still the only book published anywhere in the world which is devoted entirely to the principles of aeromedical transport, "Aeromedical Transportation" has rightly become known as the sole reference for the industry. This second edition has been radically revised and updated; featuring the latest research, updated references and new chapters on the transport of intensive care patients, and medical emergencies/death in flight. Since the first edition was published in 1996, the concept of 'evidence-based medicine' has been accepted as essential in any book which endeavours to be the accepted knowledge base in its subject area. A very practical text, international in its approach, much of its content is devoted to clinical matters. Administration and organisation are also discussed, but are addressed from the standpoint of the clinical aeromedical escort. The text is suitable for medical, paramedical and nursing personnel and for those working in organizations whose duties include the transportation of the sick and injured by air.

About the Author

Dr Terence Martin is a Consultant in Intensive Care and has been involved in the organisation, practice and teaching of both civilian and military aeromedical transport since 1984. Since leaving regular RAF service, he has had senior aeromedical evacuation roles in the UK reserve forces and with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He has spent time as Medical Director at Europ Assistance (UK), trauma registrar with the London HEMS, Senior Medical Officer in the Centre of Human Sciences at QinetiQ, and flight physician for paediatric and adult critical care transfers at Auckland Pacific Air Ambulance. He is currently a consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, UK, Senior Lecturer in Aviation Medicine at Wellington School of Medicine, University of Otago, New Zealand, and Director of CCAT Aeromedical Training, UK.

By R. Mody
Format:Paperback
Excellent book for all involved in this area of medicine and for those wanting to further their knowledge. Chapters are divided into operational, physiological and clinical aspects, with further chapters including aeromedical equipment, nursing care and international repatriations. Easy to read and very useful as a reference guide for both ground based and flight doctors, nurses and paramedics.
