Product Description

This is a groundbreaking, technical analysis of yacht design, linked to the theory and testing of how a sailing yacht behaves underway. It is cutting edge - the author (a world expert in the field) has drawn his conclusions from years of research, analytical testing in wind tunnels and tanks, and his results represent the state of the art in performance prediction which underlies all modern yacht design. State of the art and with a revolutionary modern approach, Aero-hydrodynamics and the Performance of Sailing Yachts provides a systematic and completely up to date analysis, complete with colour photographs and diagrams throughout. An essential, and long awaited, work for all professional yacht designers, racing sailors and students of yacht design.

This book offers a good introduction to the physics of sailing yachts and the use of scientific methods for their design. It offers a compilation of useful information: from aero-hydrodynamics to tank testing, CFD and performance prediction.

I almost awarded 3 stars to this book due to its very poor book design. It really feels like reading some slightly polished university course notes. Equations and some of the pictures are pixelated, plots appear to come from different sources and the general page layout could be greatly improved by a competent book designer. I look forward to the second edition.

Valuable comprehensive book addressing the application of fluid mechanics concepts to sailing vessel hulls and rigs. Better appreciated by those with university education in mechanics and applied mathematics, but informative for the general reader.

A book to keep. Good value.

Format:Paperback
It covers a lot of topics and gives you some insight, but it does not give you any 'tools'.
Not a lot of new things.
English is a bit strange (Italien translation?)
Does not use standard notation.
