Still waiting for a Region 2 release of the 5th & 6th seasons?...then the good news is that this Warner Bros. Region 1 release WILL play on a R2 DVD player. Although I enjoyed this 26 episode final collection, IMO the storylines do vary in quality, with some offbeat and unusual tales which some may find old-fashioned and cheesy, but this for me simply adds to the charm of the series. A couple of the more unusual stories include the likes of criminals being transmitted through telephone lines, and a cute mind-reading donkey! The more conventional crime-fighting Superman material includes an investigation into a crooked justice system in an isolated town.
The performances as usual are good. The regular cast are a likeable bunch of characters, with George Reeves proving yet again to be a very charismatic man of steel. Having now watched the entire series I would say the first 4 seasons are stronger overall, but there's still some good episodes here. As with the storylines, the picture quality on this colour collection is variable, with some nice prints along with some that are rather faded. The subtitles are in French and Spanish but NOT English. The only extra is a 9 minute documentary which takes a look at the Jimmy Olsen character, with Jack Larson and Noel Neill.

This TV series formed part of my early childhood in South Australia. It was what I cam home from school for, every day at 4.00PM. While it has to be admitted that the production values are not up to modern day standards, for many people, this was the first introduction to the first super-hero. It is still this incarnation that many regard as the definitive character.
I already had purchased the first 4 series, but had not seen the 5th and 6th on sale in Britain. These imports fom the USA were at a reasonable price, and arrived relatively quickly.
I would give them 5 stars, but frankly, the best seasons were the first and second, and there is some "shark jumping" in these. For example, Superman learns how to walk through walls (without smashing them down) and also manages to split himself into two separate people. It would have helped a lot with the secret identity of course.
