A good debut from the long-established UK clubnight. The North-East's likeliest lads have been in the club business for over 10 years now, and unlike their peers (Cream, Renaissance et al) they hadn't got around to releasing a mix CD.
Whilst this move seems somewhat out of character for Shindig they seem determined to approach the matter on their own terms. Rather than opt for a big name to "mix" a selection of popular club anthems for them they've stuck to the formula that made them a success; their residents.
Fresh from side projects such as the recent Lexicon Avenue Nite:Life mix this CD is a true reflection of the club night. The track choice is astute and the division of the two CDs between two styles is representative of the policy and layout of the club. CD1 is the main room with tribal beats, darker edgier house and the odd vocal for the benefit of home listeners. CD2 is strictly deep house from the 'Loft' at Foundation nightclub, funkier house for those who like to see and be seen.
Standout tracks on the CDs include Mooncat's 'Hear What Was Said', which features a spoken word vocal from Newcastle based dub-poet Ferank, Jay J's 'Keep on Rising' and John Creamer's 'Wish U Were Here'.
All in all a good introduction to Shindig for those who have not yet visited the club, and a happy reminder for those who have.
