4.0 out of 5 stars Cultivating a faith that knows no limits, 5 May 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventures in Naked Faith (True Adventure Missions) (Paperback)
A lot of people talk about trusting God, but few dare step out in radical, living-on- the edge faith. Adventures in Naked Faith is the story of one such man. Ross has served God for 33 years without a salary or a credit card, yet he has traveled the world. As you read of Ross's trust in God for finances, some stories sound like pages out of the lives of faith heroes like George Muller or Hudson Taylor. And ultimately they show just how exciting living by faith can be.

The book chronicles Ross's adventures in starting and expanding the work of Youth With A Mission in the Philippines. Some of the stories are mind-boggling. In one case, God helped Ross and his youthful team to reach millions of Filipinos with the gospel on national television. In others God provides miraculously for Ross to travel around the world to preach or minister. In one case he traveled to the Philippines without an airline ticket or a passport.

Each feature-length story is sandwiched between teaching on principles of faith and obedience to God that have guided Ross's life. They are principles that relate not just to missions but all walks of life. There are pitfalls in the life of faith that Ross points out: like being presumptious, not waiting for God's direction, or not having the right motive. Ross firmly believes that when God directs you to do something, you can step out in faith completely confident that He will supply whatever is necessary to do His will.

Perhaps the best thing about Adventures in Naked Faith is that it reminds us that God can use anyone who will simply seek to obey him. Ross is not spiritual superman. In the book he's very honest about his faults and failures, and about matters of faith he still doesn't understand. But one can't read this book without gaining a greater revelation of God's character and how worthy He is of our trust and obedience.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Adventure That's Greater Than ANY Recorded!, 1 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Adventures in Naked Faith (True Adventure Missions) (Paperback)
One book that presents the Universal God in a language that is without any bombastic, theological stuff.

Imagine telling a mountain to, "Jump." And it jumping! Nothing like this happens in "Adventures in Naked Faith" but it focuses on two important aspects of life. Faith and obedience. Faith to believe that it was God who willed the mountain to jump. And obedience to tell it to jump. It takes faith to know that God wants you to give your last savings to a street-side beggar. And guts to GIVE it. It takes faith to believe that you are doing God's will in doing something that is contrary to your heart's desire. And obedience to STILL follow His desire. Now, doesn't this need something more that fighting against physical elements? Ross Tooley has managed to put in perspective what it means to obey God. And reinforces the fact that it is God who helps you in obeying Him and reinforcing our faith in Him.

A truly great book. Written in a very humble manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 18 Jun 2007

5.0 out of 5 stars Our God is an Awesome God, 1 Jun 2006
By Michael D. Fitzpatrick - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Adventures in Naked Faith (True Adventure Missions) (Paperback)
This is simply an amazing book. If you are into faith-building, like I am, this book provides much help. Since miracles like the ones recorded are so rare, our God must take extreme delight when he sees someone who has prepared himself to do His will. One nice feature of this book is that this book instructs you on how to know for sure that God has spoken, and the folly of acting before hearing from Him. Surely this book reads like pages out of the book of Acts. A book like this helps us to reevaluate our lifestyle, and sincerely question whether with a lifestyle like most of us have, whether or not we will have the great joy of hearing our Lord say: "Well done, good and faithful servant; Enter into the joy of your Lord." I recommend this book most highly to all, whether believer or unbeliever. I can see a book like this helping an unbeliever question his unbeliefs. Read it often. This is one investment you will never regret making.
