5.0 out of 5 stars COMET QUEST 14 Jan 2012
By mox1e
In the 1980s this was originally titled The Comet Quest, & my kids would watch it everyday on video.. Bought it for my daughter now aged 29, who still watches it when ever possible.. A beautiful story & done in claymation.. Superb!

4.0 out of 5 stars WEIRD & ODDBALL - BUT I LOVED IT! 31 July 2009
By Zus
Superb animation with an odd, quirky feel to the whole film, it is possibly not for the very young as it does contain some surreal and slightly disturbing scenes, but nothing that you can't see on telly.
I loved it, and being an Artist and Sculptor, I was amazed at the texture and general look of the movie, very well made, and the animation is as good as anything modern I have seen.
Its VERY surreal in places, going off on a weird and amusing tangent, but thats what puts it above any other stop motion animated fantasy.
Glad I got it, recommended, I would love to say its "similar to" - but clearly - its similar to nothing, totally unique oddity that I am happy to have on my shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant adventure 14 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I watched this on video years ago and was completely blown away as it was supposed to have been a children's film, but surprisingly, the plot seems to span all age groups with amazing visuals, clever dialogue and a wicked story line.

So, join Huck, Becky and Tom as they set off with Mark Twain on his airship to meet Halley's Comet on the adventure of a lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must see! 14 Sep 2011
One of the most beautifully crafted piece of stop motion animation ever, Comet Quest is probably the least well known masterpiece of film ever. Charting a fictional swan-song advernture of Mark Twain, the film has his most famous characters Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer sto-away on an airship he is flying in pursuit of Hayleys Comet. Along the way, several of Twain's short stories and novels are depicted in various genius ways, and a little bit of his life story is revealed too.
There is comedy, tragedy, a little music, adventure, and even a sinister touch or two.
The whole thing is claymation, which must have been incredibly painstaking. The look is very similar to the computer generated "Hoodwinked", and is all the richer for being real world models rather than cgi. In fact, some cgi studios could (and for that matter, probably did) learn a thing or two from Comet Quest.
