If anyone is looking for an escapism then this is the book for you. From start to finish it makes you laugh and think of what you would do in the same situation. You think you know whats going to happen next then you dont. It gets better everytime I read it. The scenes are so diverse its like hes in the wrong place all the time. It makes you think about your own life and whether he could be you or maybe you just want to be him. The scenarios are just amazingly scripted. George ends up travelling almost around the world and getting into all sorts of situations all because he had a row with his wife and after it all he is still lucky to be alive. Nice one George where's the sequel.

Middle aged George Goodnight does what alot of middle aged people would love to have the bottle for.

Following a row with his wife at the start of his annual holiday, he takes the bull by the horns and embarks on a series of adventures that shows that life begins at whatever age you want it to if you have the inclination to make it happen.

Sheer escapism and a book that gently takes you along with George to see where he will end up next.

A book that prompts the reader to consider arguably two of the biggest words in the English language "What If".

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Treat yourself!

Bumbling escapism 16 Oct 2008
By JoJo
Format:Paperback
I first read this book in 1989 and have read it at least once every year since, as well as recommending it to friends and family.

The shattering blow of being told you are being divorced, please go away, starts the story and the hero bumbles his way through one scenario and another, all totally different. He never loses that kindly gentle man attitude whilst engaging in quite serious escapades, drifting along from one adventure to another.

The people he meets and the lives he touches are all so different, so well drawn and in some instances so poignant, Thomas has obviously let his imagination run free, but the hero of the novel is a very quiet man who, having had life throw him a curve ball, follows the way life leads him.

A wonderful book and one which will always be on my favourite list. Highly recommended for all ages, but especially those over 40.

Brilliant book, shame about the price.
As a book, I wanted to give it 5 stars. I couldn't though, because of the price of the e-book edition. Eight pounds! Eight pounds! Read more
