More About the Author

'Becky Jones and Clare Lewis have cornered the market in curiosity-led guides for children.'
The Londonist.com

Becky Jones and Clare Lewis set up Adventure Walks Books in 2012 to publish a series of World City Maps created for families. Currently published are map guides to London, Paris and Rome. New York is due to be published in Spring 2015. The World City series is illustrated by artist Robert Littleford.

The illustrated colourful maps are structured around 20 easy-to-follow sightseeing walks which navigate you straight to the heart of the city. At a glance, a visitor can identify the best things to see and do and the best ways to get around the city. You will never wander aimlessly again. Each of the 20 walks takes you to a famous tourist attraction, museum or landmark, dipping into the trendiest neighbourhoods and coolest streets. Each map has listings of the best museums and art galleries; best views; best markets and shopping streets and useful tourist information. To keep children happy, tempting treats are dangled along the way: ice creams and sorbets, the best cake shops, parks to let off steam in and where to spin on a carousel or see a puppet show. For children, there is an I-Spy tick box and 20 Thrilling Things to Do.

Adventure Walks for Families

The series of Adventure Walks for Families guide books (London and around) was created out of a desire to inspire city families to get back to the simple things in life and do something together that's good for everyone: getting the family out for a good walk. Children love exploring the great outdoors and, once you get them out there, they enjoy nothing better than a family ramble in the woods. It's the getting them out of the house that's the tricky bit. That's where Adventure Walks for Families fit in: each book contains 25 walks walks with a twist. Family friendly walks (not too long; good place to eat etc) are woven into adventures and given different themes to entice and inspire: children's classic stories; characters from history; stories of myths and legends. Each walk is turned into an adventure. The books dip into nostalgic childhoods to find fun and diverting things to do that so many urban kids seem to have forgotten: climbing trees, getting muddy, building shelters, foraging for food, going on a scavenger hunt, tracking and trail-finding, making paper boats, naming wild flowers and identifying trees, reading stories and singing songs. London Adventure Walks applies the same formula to the city: interweaving the stories and history of London in ways that appeal to children. Illustrated by children, enjoyed by children and tried and tested by children.

This guide is brilliant. We were is Paris with our children for just 2 days and 1 night, so time was of the essence.

The map illustrates walks around the various areas of the city and also plots the markets, parks, playgrounds, best ice-cream/crepe/hot chocolate stops, so you can see visit all the iconic places and then explore the hidden 'off the beaten track' gems around them.

Concise and extremely user friendly.

I bought this map for a weekend trip to Paris with my children. It's beautifully designed, colourful and easy to read. There are lovely walks shown which are easy to follow. It's really helpful and informative, even if you think you know Paris well. All for less than £4 - bargain!

So much more than a map! This not only provides a very attractive map of central Paris with all sites that might appeal to families clearly marked, but on the back there are a large number of things to see and do and themed walks. We researched Paris for kids on the web beforehand and frankly didn't find much useful information beyond the obvious. This proved so much more helpful and gave us plenty of very useful ideas, some off the well trodden path. Our kids are 13 and 9, but this has plenty to keep kids of any age amused (and is great fun for parents to get stuck into.) Highly recommended!
