Product Description

Product Description

Written by experienced authors and members of the Editorial Board of the I.O.P., Advanced Physics maintains the rigours of physics at the highest levels in a style that makes it accessible to a wide range of students. It is increasingly acknowledged that many of the problems students experience with A-Level Physics are associated with the mathematics involved. Advanced Physics deals with the problem head-on with full support for mathematics in physics. 'Maths boxes' have been created within the text to pull out the mathematics needed to grasp a particular concept. A complete appendix at the end of the book has also been added to offer the extra mathematical support needed. Key Points: · Objectives stated clearly at the beginning of every spread · Full colour illustrations · Graduated questions and practice

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing., 12 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This book is by far the best around for anybody who is studying physics at A/S and A level. It covers all the materials is the syllabuses of every exam board and covers them well. I found that the books designed for certain specifications e.g. Physics 1 for OCR are quite simply pathetic, they do not prepare you for exam questions at all. This book however certainly does because it brings you above the expected level making the exam a walk in the park. The information is condensed yet extremely detailed and the book always explains why things happen, which is essential.
I recommend this book to anybody whose goal is to excel in this subject, for those who are aiming for C grades I suggest you look elsewhere. If you are capable this book will take you to where you want to go. I am doing my A/S level one year early and independently and I have recently achieved full marks in the Forces and Motion exam with the aid of this book. The rest of my school failed using the books provided, I can't stress it enough, if you want to excel through fully understanding the material then this book is essential. Without this book I would have failed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book, 22 Jun 2003
In a word this book is amazing. It contains reverent up to date information and apart from being a great textbook for all major exam boards, it's a great read for anyone interested in physics alike. If you've ever wanted to find out more about quarks or neutrinos, or maybe brush up on your mechanics, even find out about current methods of telecommunication (it even includes 3g!) then this is the book for you. Its brilliantly laid out with good use of colour and includes practical examples throughout the book. While I think I might have found the book hard at the beginning of AS level, it is an invaluable resource for A2. All I can say is once you've read this book you'll be treating the authors like gods!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Physics 'Reference' Book!, 28 May 2004
I am a student currently sitting my AS exams, bought this book a few months ago and I have to say that it is truly excellent, probably the best 'reference/revision' book I have ever used. It's style is very clear, the text and descriptions are well written and thought out and overall the book does a great job of explaining concepts. The diagrams and examples are helpful and the pictures make the book seem more approachable and 'easy on the eye'.

The thing that I have personally found it the most helpful for has been the clarifying of certain concepts, and the reasons why things work in certain ways. It has succeeded where, in some aspects, my physics teachers haven't (through lack of time and not being on the same wavelength as most people), especially in dealing with particular details about facts or concepts.

However, perhaps the highest praise I can make of it is that it is a book which I would (and do) willingly pick up to read, just for the enjoyment of learning something new. It deals with many aspects of physics, going beyond, or beside, the A Level syllabus in many places, and it has obviously written by people passionate about the subject who enjoy writing about it.

I would recomend this book to anyone in my position, who is a) taking as/a level physics exams and b)who wants to do well in it, because no matter how well you 'know it', there's always more you can learn, and this book will do a great job of teaching you it.
