5.0 out of 5 stars No joke; this is the best book for M1 12 Sep 2010
For someone who took the M1 examination in 2010, I can tell you this is by far the best book. I took this book based on the reviews and boy, I was not let down.

Went from a D in class to a consistent B/A in past papers and eventually the real exam (all in about 1.5 months). I would advise users to try and buy this book as early in the year as possible to set a strong foundation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got me an A! 5 April 2007
I bought this book to help me retake mechanics one, and i can say that it truely worked. I boosted my grade from an E to a high A, and i believe this is because of the book.

It is clear, helpful, well structured and the layout means that all the problems i had previously were answered immediately. The author uses 'recall', 'note' and 'tip' boxes at the side in every section to make sure general math knowledge is up to standard. The clarity of the explanations used also help for people like me who like to understand why something is the way it is, not just how to do it. If you want help with mechanics 1 for ocr, buy this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid, dependable revision guide 17 Mar 2009
Verified Purchase
I bought this book after struggling with some of the mechanics topics for a few weeks, and then got a D on a past paper. My target's an A, so I wasn't happy. I ordered this book and already, the topics make sense. There is a CD included, that runs through some of the more long winded questions and clear step by step problem solving methods.

At the end of each section, there is a "Skills Check" section, then an Examination Practice section - ideal for really getting down to a topic.

However, there are some problems with the book, that I have discovered;

1. Most answers are given to 2 sig. fig - and when the exam board asks for 3 in the exam, this is a problem that could lead to a huge loss of marks. However, if you still give them to 3 sig. fig, and your answer rounds to what the book gives you, then it's not too bad.

2. On the powerpoint, the angles given on the triangles are just squiggly lines - it doesn't look professional. This isn't a major gripe, but annoying.

Overall, this book could defiantly serve as a booster from a D to an A - just make sure you get the one for the right exam board!!!

[PS. The software states that it runs only on windows... however, on a mac, browsing the CD it is easy to find the powerpoints and run them]
