For those of America's 32 million in-line skaters looking to skate beyond the rink or smooth path, here's a book that offers all they'll need to tame what the real world can throw at them. Advanced In-Line Skating offers the keys to moving safely in traffic and on hills, fitness and cross-training, racing, touring, tricks, roller hockey, and much more.

Book Description

This book is the next step for America's approximately 32 million in-line skaters, participants in the second fastest-growing sport in the world in 1998. According to the director of the In-Line Skating Association, in 10 years the numer of in-line skaters will equal that of bicyclists. Advanced-In-Line Skating is the answer for that rapidly growing number of skaters who have mastered the basics and are looking to expand their horizons and move from rinks and smooth pathways into the real world and all it can throw at you. Advanced-In-Line Skating covers everything a skater needs to move safely in traffic and on hills, racing, touring, fitness and cross training, participating in games such as roller hockey, roller dancing, and figure skating, launch a ramp and half pipe techniques, what to look for in gear and supplies for long-distance skating, and tips on everything from foot care to treating "road rash." Information in Advanced In-Line Skating is impaired in an easy-to-use lesson plan format with a friendly, laid-back style that's inviting to all adults and older children.

Format:Paperback
This book covers all forms of inline skating, divided into fitness, recreational, speed, aggressive, touring, skate-to-ski, off-road, and everything in between. Each section is well written and illustrated, with parts written by an expert in that field. As it has such a broad base, it doesn't cover any one of them in any great depth. There are guides to various advanced skills, but is not by any means comprehensive. For instance there's a tutorial on Reverse Power Slides, but skating backwards, a key skill in advanced skating, is briefly mentioned as what it involves rather than how to do it.

If you already skate, or you're interested in broadening your knowledge of inline skate related sports, or researching the world of blading as a beginner, this is the book for you. If you want a feast of information on how to become a more advanced skater, you may find this a light snack.

In Line Skating 13 Sep 2009
By Mrs. M.
Format:Paperback
This book is meant to be an advanced book, however it is also useful for a beginner like myself. It covers Dialect and breaks everything down so you understand it better, it also explains moves very clearly.

It covers nutrition, workout benefits, and even your diet - this book has the lot even down to the pictures........it also covers all the different kinds of races plus the key skills.

Advanced? 12 Jan 2002

I was looking for a book on advanced techniques - this is NOT the book. She covers roller hockey, speed skating and other topics very briefly. The book is misnamed...........should read "In Line skating Activities".....

Don't bother 22 Dec 2001

Advanced? Are you kidding? This book spends a lot of time about covering a broad range of topics - but none in depth. I was looking for a good book on techniques -- well this is NOT the one. It is very superfiscial and not worth buying. I found some "beginners" books with more info!

Interesting reading, but broad rather than deep. 26 Mar 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book covers fairly diverse inline areas- speed, hockey, fitness, etc and as a result does not delve too deeply into any one area. If you wish to pursue any one aspect of skating, I'd recommend finding something more specialised. For example, the two areas that I specifically wish to pursue, double push and stair riding, are not covered at all. I find it especially puzzling that stair riding could be missing from a book with this title.

Still, as broad skating book, it's quite interesting and does have some good stuff on stroke technique.
