Beautiful acoustic roots music from Senegal. It doesn't try too hard to overwhelm or pander to 'world' styles.
A good mix of instrumental and vocal tracks. Not unlike Baaba Maal's acoustic moments.
There are just two main musicians:
Malick Pathe Sow plays hoddu (the Senegalese name for the n'goni, the Malian version has been made know in the west by Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba), sometimes acoustic guitar and also vocals.
Bao Sissoko plays kora and sometimes backing vocals.
In addition are the occasional efforts of some very fine guests:
Calabash percussion on four tracks, female vocals on two tracks by Talike Gelle (who I'm guessing from the name is not Senegalese but sings in that style), there's a Chinese violin the Erhu on the track Hommage a Ali Farka.
Beautifully restrained and soothing music. 13 tracks, almost an hour in length. Very nice.
Sow's last album Maayo Men is also worth a listen, another wonderful acoustic album.

It doesn't get better than this! Would give it 6 stars, if I could.
Laid back, gentle, beautiful musicianship, that gets better with every listen. Never dull, just lovely and uplifting. Fine guitar, hoddu and kora, with occasional percussion and vocal work. Fabulous rhythm and harmony, that almost puts you in a trance.
