Product Description

Product Description

Kivi wasn’t allowed in the engine room. No one was. But she couldn’t resist. She just had to see the mechanical wonder that powered the colony ship that was her whole world. So she snuck inside to catch a glimpse of the heart of the Lucy… just in time to witness it lurch to a stop.

When she emerged from the engine room, the ship that had once been bursting with people was dark and empty. She could only find one other person, an older boy named Tron, who’d been kept in isolation for years; a boy the adults decided was too dangerous to live with everyone else.

But there was no time to hold grudges, or to figure out what happened to their missing family. The engine was dead. Without that there was no light, no gravity, no heat, no air... They had to work together to figure out how to operate the ship and survive, or the Lucy would be one more dead ship drifting through the black.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me reading 12 May 2014

I downloaded a couple hundred new SciFi books from Amazon between February and May, and this was one of the eight I actually finished reading. It's basically a young adult romance set in unforgiving space, though hardcore SciFi fans will be put off by some serious gaps in the science parts.

But despite all of the rough edges, it kept me reading, so I must have cared enough about the main characters enough to want to see how things turned out for them. The story reminded me of some of the earliest YA fiction I can remember, Victorian era stories about children shipwrecked on remote islands, dealing with threats and survival, that sort of thing.
